Iota-carrageenans from Solieria filiformis (Rhodophyta) and their effects in the inflammation and coagulation=Iota-carragenanas da rodofícea Solieria filiformis e seus efeitos na inflamação e coagulação [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2012
Biochemical analyses are important tools for discovering new bioactive compounds for medical clinic. This study aimed at isolating iota-carrageenans (ι-CARs) from Solieria filiformis (Rhodophyta) by enzymatic extraction (EE), refined hot-water extraction

Antithrombin-mediated anticoagulant activity of sulfated polysaccharides: different mechanisms for heparin and sulfated galactans.

open access: yesThe Journal of biological chemistry, 2004
We investigated the mechanisms of anticoagulant activity mediated by sulfated galactans. The anticoagulant activity of sulfated polysaccharides is achieved mainly through potentiation of plasma cofactors, which are the natural inhibitors of coagulation proteases. Our results indicated the following.

A carbohydrate-based mechanism of species recognition in sea urchin fertilization

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2007
In the present review, we describe a systematic study of the sulfated polysaccharides from marine invertebrates, which led to the discovery of a carbohydrate-based mechanism of sperm-egg recognition during sea urchin fertilization.

Effects of Low Molecular Weight Sulfated Galactan Fragments From Botryocladia Occidentalis on the Pharmacological and Enzymatic Activity of Spla2 From Crotalus Durissus Cascavella

open access: yes, 2010
Low molecular weight fragments of sulfated galactans (Boc-5 and Boc-10) from the red algae Botryocladia occidentalis significantly inhibited Crotalus durissus cascavella sPLA2 enzymatic activity.

Sulfated exopolysaccharide from Bacillus altitudinis MTCC13046 accelerates cutaneous wound healing via dermal fibroblast migration: Insights into an in vivo wound re-epithelialization [PDF]

open access: yes
Bacterial exopolysaccharides with (1 → 3) linked β-glucans and β-galactans have been identified as potent candidates for wound healing. In this study, a sulfated exopolysaccharide (BAP-2), characterized by its major repeating units as [→3)-β-GlcAp-(1 → 3)
