Cytosolic Phospholipase A2 Modulates TLR2 Signaling in Synoviocytes

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2015
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic synovitis leading to destruction of cartilage and bone. PLA2 enzymes are key players in inflammation regulating the release of unsaturated fatty acids such as arachidonic acid (AA), a precursor of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids.

IL-26 is overexpressed in rheumatoid arthritis and induces proinflammatory cytokine production and Th17 cell generation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2012
Interleukin-26 (IL-26), a member of the IL-10 cytokine family, induces the production of proinflammatory cytokines by epithelial cells. IL-26 has been also reported overexpressed in Crohn's disease, suggesting that it may be involved in the ...

Synovial cysts of the temporomandibular joint: an immunohistochemical characterization and literature review. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Synovial cysts of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are very rare, and to date, only 12 cases of a synovial cyst in the TMJ region have been reported in the literature.

Is the temporomandibular joint affected by rheumatoid arthritis? A comparative investigation with knee arthritis in an experimental rat model

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Animals were sensitized with mBSA emulsified in CFA/IFA and subsequently received three intra‐articular injections of mBSA into either the TMJ or the knee (once per week). Mechanical hyperalgesia was assessed using electronic von Frey testing after arthritis establishment at 24 h or 7 days following the third intra‐articular injection.

Ontology and Function of Fibroblast-Like and Macrophage-Like Synoviocytes: How Do They Talk to Each Other and Can They Be Targeted for Rheumatoid Arthritis Therapy?

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) and macrophage-like synoviocytes (MLS) are the two main cellular components of the synovium. It has been widely reported that FLS and MLS play essential roles in the joint pathology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA ...

Human infrapatellar fat pad mesenchymal stem cells show immunomodulatory exosomal signatures

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Within the human knee infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) and synovium, resident synoviocytes and macrophages contribute to the onset and progression of inflammatory joint diseases.

Histamine and Histamine H4 Receptor Promotes Osteoclastogenesis in Rheumatoid Arthritis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Histamine H4 receptor (H4R) has immune-modulatory and chemotaxic effects in various immune cells. This study aimed to determine the osteoclastogenic role of H4R in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Krüppel-Like Factor 4 Is a Regulator of Proinflammatory Signaling in Fibroblast-Like Synoviocytes through Increased IL-6 Expression

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2016
Human fibroblast-like synoviocytes play a vital role in joint synovial inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Proinflammatory cytokines induce fibroblast-like synoviocyte activation and dysfunction.

Association of FCGR3A and FCGR3B haplotypes with rheumatoid arthritis and primary Sjögren's syndrome [POSTER PRESENTATION] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that is thought to arise from a complex interaction between multiple genetic factors and environmental triggers.

Computational modelling of cardiac fibroblast signalling reveals a key role for Ca2+ in driving atrial fibrillation‐associated fibrosis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A pre‐existing fibroblast signalling model was enhanced by integrating atrial‐specific components and reactions linked to atrial fibrosis and atrial fibrillation (AF). The analysis highlights the central role of Ca2⁺ signalling in driving profibrotic responses to AF‐relevant stimuli, angiotensin‐II and transforming growth factor ...
