Tanycytes in the medial habenular nucleus of the rat
Anatomy and Embryology, 1985Tanycytes with foot processes contacting capillary basal membranes were identified in the rat medial habenular nucleus. They constitute a relatively small but constant population of cells among the conventional ependymal cells. In contrast to tanycytes in most circumventricular organs, habenular tanycytes possess cilia.

Tanycytes and their relation to the hypophyseal gonadotrophic function
Brain Research, 1981It is shown by the enzyme-histochemical method that after prenatal androgenization (the administration of 25 mg testosterone propionate to the mother on the 19th day of pregnancy) female rats lose the sex differences in the age dynamics of the activity of some dehydrogenases in the beta 1-tanycytes, which were detected earlier in the 'critical period'.

Ganglioglioma with a tanycytic ependymoma as the glial component
Acta Neuropathologica, 2000We studied a cystic ganglioglioma (GG) located in the right frontal lobe of the brain. Interestingly, the fibrillary spindle glial cells were often arranged in a fascicular pattern, and the generally uniform, round-to-oval delicate nuclei appeared to resemble those of ependymoma; and the neoplastic neurons often contained neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs).

Tanycytes and hypothalamic control of energy metabolism
Glia, 2018AbstractStudies from a number of areas of neuroendocrinology indicate that hypothalamic tanycytes play a key role in control of energy metabolism. First, profound annual changes in gene expression have been identified in these unusual glial cells in seasonal mammals, for example in genes relating to the transport and metabolism of thyroid hormone into ...

The tanycyte of the rat median eminence
Cell and Tissue Research, 1979The present ultrastructural study proves the existence of nerve terminals closely apposed to the plasmalemmata of tanycytes in the rat median eminence. Several of these "axo-tanycytic" endings display remarkable accumulations of agranular endoplasmic reticulum in the form of pleomorphic vesicles which are closely apposed on either side of the plasma ...

Response of tanycytes to aging in the median eminence of the rat
American Journal of Anatomy, 1982AbstractAge‐related changes in tanycytes of the median eminence were observed at both the light and electron microscopic level in male and female rats at ages 4 weeks to 14 months. The most obvious changes involved a marked progressive increase in number and size of droplets identified histochemically as neutral lipid and the development of complex ...

Spinal tanycytic ependymoma with diffusion restriction on MRI
Acta Neurologica Belgica, 2012Tanycytic ependymoma is a rare spindle-cell variant of ependymoma derived from tanycytes. Primitive neuroectodermal tumors usually have diffusion restriction, whereas ependymomas do not. Here, we present a case of tanycytic ependymoma with diffusion restriction.

The Tanycytic Ependymoma of the Lateral Ventricle: Case Report
min - Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, 1999The tanycytic ependymoma is an extremely rare, primitive neuroectodermal tumor, arising from the ependymoglial cells or tanycytes. Such cells are generally seen in the primitive nervous system instead of the mature ependymal cells. The tanycytic ependymoma described in this report was found in a 42-year-old man. Histological analysis strongly suggested

Aqueductal tanycytes in the rabbit brain: A Golgi study
The Anatomical Record, 1981AbstractUtilizing Golgi‐Cox impregnation, tanycytes were found in the ependyma of the cerebral aqueduct of the neonatal and adult rabbit. These tanycyte somas showed a variety of shapes, apical projections into the aqueduct, and basal processes (shafts) projecting into the mesencephalon, particularly into the periaqueductal gray (PAG).

A Rare Case of Spinal Dumbbell Tanycytic Ependymoma
Spine, 2011Case report. To report an extremely rare case of spinal dumbbell-type tanycyticependymoma.Only two previous cases of a dumbbell-type tanycyticependymoma in the spinal cordhave been reported.A 40-year-old female presented with low back pain and numbness of the left leg.
