Tanycytic ependymoma of filum terminale: A case report
Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2012Tanycytic ependymoma is an uncommon but well-recognized variant of ependymoma. Here we report a case of tanycytic ependymoma occurring at the region of filum terminale in a 44-year male who presented with low backache, bilateral lower limb weakness and urinary incontinence.

Tanycytes are the peculiar ependymal cells that are lining the ventral part of the third ventricle in the mature selachian brain. Normal tanycytes are long non-branching unipolar or bipolar cells that extend between the ventricular surface and the cortex. These cells in the spinal cord surround the central canal.

A cortical cystic epileptogenic lesion: tanycytic ependymoma
Acta Neurologica Belgica, 2012Ependymomas are neuroepithelial tumors usually found in the fourth ventricle, spinal cord and filum terminale, with higher incidence in children and young adults and two main histological types (classic cellular and myxopapillary). Tanycytic ependymoma is a rare variant with cystic appearance, occasionally found outside the ventricular system and ...

Regulation of Thyroid Hormone Gatekeepers by Thyrotropin in Tanycytes
Thyroid®Background: Tanycytes are specialized glial cells within the mediobasal hypothalamus that have multiple functions, including hormone sensing and regulation of hypophysiotropic hormone secretion. There are ongoing discussions about the role of tanycytes in regulating the supply of hypothalamic thyroid hormones (THs) through the expression of TH ...
