Genomic Insights Into the Population and Antibiotic Resistance Changes of Salmonella Pullorum in China

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 188-194, May 2025.
Salmonella Pullorum strains in China are categorized into three phylogenetic clades. Clade 1 strains have all been isolated in the past 15 years. The population size of S. pullorum in China saw a significant decline between 2003 and 2016, reflecting the effectiveness of purification efforts.

Detection of clinical isolates of tigecycline-resistant Escherichia coli harbouring tet(X4) in Myanmar

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
Objectives: Tigecycline is one of the last-resort antibiotics for treating serious infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens. This is the first report of clinical isolates of tigecycline-resistant Escherichia coli harbouring tet(X4) in Myanmar ...

The European Union summary report on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2022–2023

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract This report presents the main findings of the 2022–2023 harmonised antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring in Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from humans and food‐producing animals (broilers, laying hens and fattening turkeys, fattening pigs and cattle under 1 year of age) and derived meat.

Emergence of Mobilized Tigecycline Resistance Gene Cluster tmexCD1-toprJ1 in Raoultella ornithinolytica From a Swine Farm, China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Tigecycline is considered a last‐line therapeutic option for treating infections caused by multidrug‐resistant (MDR) Gram‐negative bacteria. The emergence of tmexCD1-toprJ1, a plasmid‐mediated resistance‐nodulation‐division (RND) efflux pump gene cluster, poses a growing threat to tigecycline efficacy.

Design, potential and limitations of conjugation‐based antibacterial strategies

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 17, Issue 11, November 2024.
Highlighting of innovative non‐antibiotic strategies, specifically CRISPR‐based systems delivered via bacterial conjugation. Abstract Over the past few decades, the global spread of antimicrobial resistance has underscored the urgent need to develop innovative non‐antibiotic antibacterial strategies and to reduce antibiotic use worldwide.

Compensatory evolution of chromosomes and plasmids counteracts the plasmid fitness cost

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2024.
In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the currently reported mechanisms underlying compensatory evolution on chromosomes and plasmids, elucidate key targets regulating plasmid fitness cost, and discuss future challenges in this field.

Community gut colonization by tet(X4)-positive multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli in healthy individuals from urban residents in Shenzhen, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
BackgroundTigecycline remains a last-resort antibiotic for treating multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative pathogens. The emergence of tet(X4)-mediated high-level tigecycline resistance in Escherichia coli has raised global concern, yet its prevalence ...
