Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with chronic systemic and cardiac inflammation, contributing to the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy. The mitochondrial‐derived peptide mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type‐C (MOTS‐c) has emerged as a promising regulator of metabolic and inflammatory pathways.

Abstract figure legend The genetic inactivation of one Mcu allele leads to sex‐specific changes in neuronal function in adult mice, that is, the firing of action potentials and the relationship between cytosolic and mitochondrial Ca2+ levels. The ability to produce NAD(P)H by stimulated neural tissue is largely preserved in male mice but delayed in ...

Abstract figure legend Graphical abstract of the proposed Ro5‐4864 mechanism of action via p62‐Keap1‐Nrf2 axis in heart failure. TSPO, the 18‐kDa mitochondrial translocator protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane, can directly interact with p62 (also known as SQSTM1), which is crucial for the degradation of damaged mitochondria by autophagy ...

The dynamics of thioredoxin-dependent reactions. [PDF]
M. Sc. University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg 2014.The thioredoxin system, comprising thioredoxin (Trx), thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) and NADPH, is present in most organisms from prokaryotes to eukaryotes.

Abstract figure legend Sprint interval training (SIT) is a popular time‐efficient type of endurance training. Healthy young men performed nine SIT sessions (4–6 × 30 s all‐out cycling sprints) over 3 weeks while being supplemented with antioxidants (high doses of vitamins C and E) or placebo. Muscle biopsies taken before and after the first SIT session

Based on the conserved protein sequence of thioredoxins from yeast and other organisms, two primers were synthesized for polymerase chain reaction of yeast genomic DNA. A 34-base pair (bp) sequence around the active site of yeast thioredoxin was obtained from the polymerase chain reaction product.

Born early, age fast: Consequences of premature birth on chronic disease and accelerated ageing
Abstract figure legend ELGANs are exposed to several postnatal pro‐oxidant stressors, including ambient and supplemental oxygen, mechanical ventilation, infections, hyperalimentation, excessive glucocorticoids and intermittent hypoxia. Since endogenous antioxidant defences are underdeveloped, this imbalance promotes oxidative stress and inflammation ...

Structural Studies on Wheat Thioredoxin h
National audienceTriticum aestivum thioredoxin h overproduced in Escherichia coli (TrxTa) was purified to homogeneity. TrxTa showed a lower stability than other thioredoxins but was active and exhibited the same reactivity as wheat seed isolated ...
