Thioredoxins h are ubiquitous proteins reduced by NADPH— thioredoxin reductase (NTR). They are able to reduce disulphides in target proteins. In monocots, thioredoxins h accumulate at high level in seeds and show a predominant localization in the nucleus of seed cells.

Protein disulfide isomerase A6 (PDIA6) is identified as an oncogenic driver in gastric cancer. PDIA6 directly binds and stabilizes SCD1 by limiting its ubiquitin–proteasome‐mediated degradation, thereby sustaining monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA)‐enriched lipid homeostasis and lipid metabolic reprogramming.

Mitochondrial thioredoxin-glutathione reductase was purified from larval Taenia crassiceps (cysticerci). The preparation showed NADPH-dependent reductase activity with either thioredoxin or GSSG, and was able to perform thiol/disulfide exchange reactions.
