A comment on the absence of calcium regulation of human thioredoxin reductase

open access: yes, 1993
It has been previously suggested that human thioredoxin reductase activity is regulated by calcium. However, the activity of a purified form of human placental thioredoxin reductase was found to not be affected by mM concentrations of calcium, well above

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1398-1419, June 2026.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Identification of Thioredoxin reductase in nucleus of HeLa cell

open access: yes, 2004
Thioredoxin reductases are homodimeric flavoproteins that catalyze the reduction of thioredoxin by NADPH. Three distinct forms of mammalian thioredoxin reductases are in cytoplasm, mitochondrium and microsome respectively.

Cars2‐Mediated Cysteine Catabolism Drives Brown Fat Development and Thermogenesis Through Persulfidating EBF2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
We demonstrate that Cars2, a cysteine catabolic enzyme in mouse iBAT, is critical for cold tolerance and brown adipocyte differentiation. Through its CPERS activity, Cars2 produces CysSSH/H2S to induce EBF2 persulfidation, promoting its interaction with PPARγ and BRG1 to enhance thermogenic gene expression.

Selenium‐Based Nanoplatforms: An Emerging Theranostic Paradigm for Gynecological Cancers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 33, 15 June 2026.
This reivew summarizes Selenium as a multifunctional anticancer regulator in gynecological cancers. It reduces tumor risk, enhances therapeutic efficacy, and reduces treatment toxicity. Selenium also overcomes chemoraditherapy resistance, improving overall treatment outcomes. ABSTRACT Gynecological cancers present significant therapeutic challenges due

Thiol‐Containing Deep Eutectic Solvents as 2‐In‐1 Cofactor Regeneration Media For Oxidoreductases: Understanding Non‐Innocent Solvents

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
This study developed dithiothreitol‐based deep eutectic solvents as dual‐function media for NADPH regeneration in biocatalysis. Tailored formulations supported Thermus thermophilus thioredoxin reductase/thioredoxin‐1 and Lactobacillus brevis alcohol dehydrogenase.

Thioredoxin/thioredoxin reductase system involvement in cerebellar granule cell apoptosis

open access: yes, 2014
The involvement of thioredoxin/thioredoxin reductase system has been investigated in cerebellar granule cells (CGCs), a cellular system in which neurons are induced in apoptosis by the physiological stimulus of lowering extracellular potassium ...

Santamarine Synergizes With Cisplatin via ROS/JNK Axis to Selectively Induce Apoptosis and DNA Damage in Oral Cancer Cells In Vitro

open access: yesDrug Development Research, Volume 87, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Santamarine (SAMA), a Michelia compressa‐derived sesquiterpene lactone, exhibits ROS‑mediated anticancer activity; however, its potential mechanisms and synergy with cisplatin in oral cancer have not been explored. This study investigated SAMA and cisplatin's combined effects and underlying ROS/MAPK mechanisms of action on oral cancer cells ...
