The thioredoxin system and cancer therapy: a review
Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, 2019Thioredoxin (Trx), thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), and NADPH are key members of the Trx system that is involved in redox regulation and antioxidant defense. In recent years, several researchers have provided information about the roles of the Trx system in cancer development and progression.

Redox regulation by the human thioredoxin system
BioFactors, 2001We cloned human thioredoxin as adult T cell leukaemia (ATL)-derived factor (ADF), an inducer of IL-2R/alpha produced by human T cell leukaemia virus type-I (HTLV-I)-transformed cells [18,21]. Thioredoxin (Trx) was originally reported as a hydrogen donor to ribonucleotide reductase, an essential enzyme for DNA sysnthesis in Escherichia coli.

Linked thioredoxin-glutathione systems in platyhelminths
Trends in Parasitology, 2004The thioredoxin and glutathione systems play a central role in thiol-disulfide redox homeostasis in many organisms by providing electrons to essential enzymes, and defence against oxidative stress. These systems have recently been characterized in platyhelminth parasites, and the emerging biochemical scenario is the existence of linked processes with ...

Thioredoxin reductase in control of the pigmentary system
Clinics in Dermatology, 1989Abstract Free radical reactions involving molecular oxygen have been implicated in a variety of diseases 1 as well as in the biologic process of aging. 2 The surface of the skin is especially susceptible to free radical damage as a consequence of photochemical reduction reactions between ultraviolet (UV) light and molecular oxygen producing active ...
