Photoinduced Formation Mechanism of the Thymine–Thymine (6–4) Adduct
The photoinduced mechanism leading to the formation of the thymine-thymine (6-4) photolesion has been studied by using the CASPT2//CASSCF approach over a dinucleotide model in vacuo. Following light absorption, localization of the excitation on a single thymine leads to fast singlet-triplet crossing that populates the triplet (3)(nπ*) state of thymine.

A colorimetric probe based on a hybrid sensing system of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and thymine (Thy) was developed for easy and rapid detection of copper (II) ions (Cu2+) in solution. The underlying principle of this probe

The reaction of mer-(Ru(H)2(CO)(PPh3)3) (1) with one equivalent of thymine acetic acid (THAcH) unexpectedly produces the macrocyclic dimer k1(O), k2(N,O)-(Ru(CO)(PPh3)2THAc)2 (4) and, concomitantly, the doubly coordinated species k1(O), k2(O,O)-(Ru(CO ...

Sensitive Silver-Enhanced Microplate Apta-Enzyme Assay of Sb3+ Ions in Drinking and Natural Waters
The toxic effects of antimony pose risks to human health. Therefore, simple analytical techniques for its widescale monitoring in water sources are in demand. In this study, a sensitive microplate apta-enzyme assay for Sb3+ detection was developed.

The exploration of the ionic liquids’ mechanism of action on nucleobase’s structure and properties is still limited. In this work, the binding model of the 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([Cnmim]Br, n = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) ionic liquids to the thymine ...

Mutagenicity of a unique thymine-thymine dimer or thymine-thymine pyrimidine pyrimidone (6-4) photoproduct in mammalian cells [PDF]
The mutagenic properties of UV-induced photoproducts, both the cis-syn thymine-thymine dimer (TT) and the thymine-thymine pyrimidine pyrimidone (6-4) photoproduct [T(6-4)T] were studied in mammalian cells using shuttle vectors. A shuttle vector able to replicate in both mammalian cells and bacteria was produced in its single-stranded DNA form. A unique

Thymine-Modified Nanocarrier for Doxorubicin Delivery in Glioblastoma Cells
Brain tumor glioblastoma is one of the worst types of cancer. The blood–brain barrier prevents drugs from reaching brain cells and shields glioblastoma from treatment.

Prebiotic Route to Thymine from Formamide—A Combined Experimental–Theoretical Study
Synthesis of RNA nucleobases from formamide is one of the recurring topics of prebiotic chemistry research. Earlier reports suggest that thymine, the substitute for uracil in DNA, may also be synthesized from formamide in the presence of catalysts ...

Adenine and Thymine Effect on Quartz Dissolution at Different Artificial Seawaters
According to Bernal (1951) minerals may have played important roles in the origin of life such as: protect biomolecules against degradation by UV radiation or hydrolysis, pre-concentrate biomolecules from prebiotic seas and formation of polymers.
