Combination of Lenvatinib and Antibiotics: A Potential Approach to Enhance Sensitivity in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Although lenvatinib is the current first‐line therapy for radioiodine‐refractory differentiated thyroid carcinoma, its use is limited by severe side effects and reduced sensitivity. Here, the authors assessed the potential of sensitizing differentiated thyroid carcinoma tumor cells with limited lenvatinib responsiveness through the administration of ...

Potent monoclonal antibodies against multidrug‐resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
A novel immunization strategy using a low‐virulence, multidrug‐resistant strain yields synergistic monoclonal antibodies against hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae. These antibodies provide cross‐serotype protection through a dual‐mechanism of pathogen clearance and immunomodulation, offering a promising non‐antibiotic therapeutic for resistant ...

Lon dysfunction-mediated collateral sensitivity drives effective antibiotic combination therapies against tigecycline-resistant pathogens

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Tigecycline is a last-resort antibiotic primarily used to treat severe infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. However, the emergence of constantly appearing resistance determinants has drastically compromised its clinical ...

Duplex Recombinase Polymerase Amplification‐Lateral Flow Assay for Rapid Visual Detection of Critical Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae From Positive Blood Cultures

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
This study developed a pair of duplex RPA‐LFA assays for the simultaneous detection of critical resistance genes, blaCTX‐M/mcr‐1 and blaoxa‐48‐like/blaNDM, from hemoculture samples. Under optimized conditions, duplex RPA was performed at 37°C–38°C for 25 min, followed by LFA for 10–15 min.

Influence of Media and Testing Methodology on Susceptibility to Tigecycline of Enterobacteriaceae with Reported High Tigecycline MIC

open access: yes, 2010
The tigecycline susceptibility of six different Enterobacteriaceae strains with reported high tigecycline MICs was determined in quintuplicate by four methodologies using Mueller-Hinton agar and broth from six manufacturers.

Evolutionary Trajectory of the Tet(X) Family: Critical Residue Changes towards High-Level Tigecycline Resistance

open access: yesmSystems, 2021
The newly emerged tigecycline-inactivating enzymes Tet(X3) and Tet(X4), which are associated with high-level tigecycline resistance, demonstrated significantly higher activities in comparison to that of the prototypical Tet(X) enzyme, threatening the ...

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...
