Lateral Stiffness, Cornering Stiffness and Relaxation Length of the Pneumatic Tire

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1990
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes an experimental program of tire research used to quantify the concept of the “relaxation length” of the fully rolling, steered tire. Two methods of developing lateral force are compared for the general car with the result that a first-order differential equation is obtained from which the ...

Local Path Planning and Tracking Control Considering Tire Cornering Stiffness Uncertainty

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2021
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In autonomous driving, variations in tire vertical load, tire slip angle, road conditions, tire pressure and tire friction all contribute to uncertainty in tire cornering stiffness. Even the same tire may vary slightly during the manufacturing process.

Observability matrix and parameter identification: application to vehicle tire cornering stiffness

Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006
Tire cornering stiffness is an important parameter of vehicle modeling. Together with sideslip angle it is a transversal force governing tire-road contact, and like sideslip angle it can be used to evaluate lateral vehicle stability. This paper presents a vehicle sideslip angle observer based on a nonlinear vehicle model.

Identification of Linear Tire Cornering Stiffness Using Subspace Methods

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
In this paper, subspace identification methods are proposed to estimate the linear tire cornering stiffness, which are only based on the road tests data without any prior knowledge. This kind of data-driven method has strong robustness. In order to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithms, a series of standard road tests are carried

The Effects of Tire Cornering Stiffness on Vehicle Linear Handling Performance

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In this paper, the effects of tire cornering stiffness on vehicle frequency responses have been investigated. The high speed force and moment test data of four different groups of tires were collected. These tires had different constructions and wide ranges of cornering stiffness.

Nonlinear Tire Cornering Stiffness Observer for a Double Steering Off-Road Mobile Robot

2019 International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), 2019
Path tracking controllers for an autonomous vehicle are often designed by using either a dynamic model or a kinematic one and some models are related to wheel-ground contact, that makes the efficiency of the controller highly dependent on the ground parameters estimation, especially for off-road mobile robots intended to navigate in open environments ...

Simultaneous identification of tire cornering stiffnesses and vehicle center of gravity

2008 American Control Conference, 2008
INS, GPS measurements are used to simultaneously estimate the location of the center of gravity of a vehicle and the tire cornering stiffnesses. The developed method uses kinematic as well as dynamic equations of a lateral vehicle model to eliminate the bias in the yaw rate and lateral acceleration measurements.

Analysis of Tire Cornering Stiffness Property under Slight Driving or Braking Condition

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
A tire model considering the lateral and longitudinal stiffness of carcass was built to describe tire cornering stiffness property under slight driving or braking condition. The effects of carcass elastic on the tire cornering stiffness were analyzed by varying carcass stiffness.

A Model for Combined Tire Cornering and Braking Forces with Anisotropic Tread and Carcass Stiffness

SAE International Journal of Commercial Vehicles, 2011
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The objective of this paper is to enhance the accuracy of tire model combined tire cornering and braking forces with anisotropic tread and carcass stiffness. The difference of tire longitudinal slip stiffness and cornering stiffness will arouse that the direction of tire ...
