Nanomaterials for Allergy Diagnosis and Treatment: Advances, Opportunities and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanomaterials offer dual applications in allergy management. For diagnosis, nanomaterials enhance analytical sensitivity and improve detection in specific IgE and functional assays such as the basophil activation test (BAT). For allergen‐specific immunotherapy, nanomaterials enable allergen masking and controlled release, and effectively modulate the ...

Toll-like receptor 2-mediated ERK activation significantly upregulates interleukin-6 expression in M2-polarized macrophages

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi
M2-polarized macrophages and interleukin (IL)-6 significantly alter the tumor microenvironment and promote the malignant behaviors of tumor cells. This study aimed to establish M2-type macrophages from THP-1 cells, which are human leukemia monocytes, and

THBS1+ Macrophages Exacerbate Modic Changes via SDC4‐Dependent Activation of NLRP3 Inflammasome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The illustration of THBS1+ macrophages exacerbate MCs via SDC4‐dependent activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. THBS1+ macrophage subpopulation was identified in MCs through single‐cell RNA sequencing. C. acnes and its metabolites activate THBS1 expression in macrophages via the TLR signaling pathway.

Sustained Toll-like receptor 9 activation promotes systemic and cardiac inflammation, and aggravates diastolic heart failure in SERCA2a KO mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aim Cardiac inflammation is important in the pathogenesis of heart failure. However, the consequence of systemic inflammation on concomitant established heart failure, and in particular diastolic heart failure, is less explored.

Slc44a2 Deficiency Unveils an IFN‐I–Dependent Feedback Control of pDC Egress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Working model of SLC44A2‐mediated maintenance of pDC homeostasis. This model illustrates two central mechanisms by which SLC44A2 regulates pDC homeostasis: (1) SLC44A2 limits IFN‐I production by exporting amino acids (T, N, Q), thereby preventing spontaneous pDC activation.

The role of toll-like receptors in the adrenal gland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sepsis is caused by infection and often followed by an overwhelming inflammatory response. This can lead to shock, organ failure and even death. Each year approximately 60,000 people die in Germany due to sepsis.

Hepatocyte growth factor as a driver of synovial inflammation and therapeutic resistance in rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundPrevious studies have demonstrated that hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is implicated in treatment resistance in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

S100A8/A9‐High Macrophages Activate Intestinal Fibroblasts via mCCL6/hCCL15‐CCR1 Axis to Drive Intestinal Fibrosis in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
S100A8/A9‐high macrophages are markedly enriched in the stenotic intestinal tissue of patients with Crohn's disease. These profibrotic macrophages secrete mCCL6 in a STAT3‐dependent manner. mCCL6 and its human ortholog hCCL15 activate fibroblasts via the CCR1 receptor, thereby driving excessive collagen deposition.

Unravelling the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of dietary fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been shown to modulate immune responses and have therapeutic effects in inflammatory disorders. The specific mechanisms of their actions have yet to be defined.

Toll-like receptor 2/6-dependent stimulation of mesenchymal stem cells promotes angiogenesis by paracrine factors [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2013
Reconstruction of critical size bone defects represents a major challenge in orthopaedic surgery. Insufficient angiogenesis is a limiting factor for engraftment of large-scale tissue transplants.
