Were policies in Brazil effective to reducing trans fat from industrial origin in foods?

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública, 2018
OBJECTIVE To determine the trans fatty acids content of processed foods frequently consumed by adults living in a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after the enactment of a mandatory trans fatty acids labelling policy.

THE EFFECT OF TRANS FATTY ACID DIET ON BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL OF WISTAR RATS (A PRELIMINARY STUDY) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Trans fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids that contain at least one double bond in the trans configuration and formed through the process of partial hydrogenation.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Effects of pH and Concentrations of Linoleic and Linolenic Acids on Extent and Intermediates of Ruminal Biohydrogenation in Vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Three experiments were conducted by in vitro incubations in ruminal fluid to investigate the effects of pH and amounts of linoleic and linolenic acids on the extent of their biohydrogenation, the proportions of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and trans ...

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Actualisation des données françaises sur les acides gras trans

open access: yesOléagineux, Corps gras, Lipides, 2008
In 2005, a report of the French Agency for Public health and Food (AFSSA) had concluded that certain groups of the French population were likely to consume too many trans fatty acids.

Olive oil in food spreads

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2004
Chemical hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids is a commonly applied reaction to food industries. The process may imply the movement of double bonds in their positions on the fatty acid carbon chain, producing positional and geometrical isomers ...

RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Trans Fatty Acids and Plasma Lipoproteins

open access: yesNutrition Reviews, 2009
Perceptions of the health effects of trans fatty acids, particularly in the form of margarine, have undergone several changes during the past 10 years. What was once heralded as the healthy alternative to butter now assumes the role of coconspirator.
