Isolation and Functional Analysis of the bZIP Transcription Factor Gene TaABP1 from a Chinese Wheat Landrace

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2012
In plants, basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors play important roles in regulatory processes, including stress response, pathogenic defense and light response as well as organ and tissue differentiation.

Hypoxia promotes invasive growth by transcriptional activation of the met protooncogene.

open access: yesCancer Cell, 2003
Hypoxia unleashes the invasive and metastatic potential of tumor cells by largely unknown mechanisms. The Met tyrosine kinase, a high affinity receptor for hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), plays a crucial role in controlling invasive growth and is often ...

Selective Activation of Alternative MYC Core Promoters by Wnt-Responsive Enhancers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In Metazoans, transcription of most genes is driven by the use of multiple alternative promoters. Although the precise regulation of alternative promoters is important for proper gene expression, the mechanisms that mediates their differential ...

Spontaneous virus reactivation in cattle chronically infected with bovine leukemia virus

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2019
Background The absence of virus expression during the chronic stage of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection and its reactivation upon ex vivo culture has become a long-lived Dogma.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

The Role of VP16 in the Life Cycle of Alphaherpesviruses

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The protein encoded by the UL48 gene of alphaherpesviruses is named VP16 or alpha-gene-transactivating factor (α-TIF). In the early stage of viral replication, VP16 is an important transactivator that can activate the transcription of viral immediate ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Branched-Chain Amino Acid Negatively Regulates KLF15 Expression via PI3K-AKT Pathway. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Recent studies have linked branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) with numerous metabolic diseases. However, the molecular basis of BCAA's roles in metabolic regulation remains to be established.
