β-D-xylosyl glycerol, lactoseを含む溶液中でEscherichia coli β-galactosidaseを作用させ, その反応液を活性炭およびセルロースカラムクロマトグラフ法に供したところ, ο-β-D-galactosyl-(1→4)-ο-β-D-xylosyl-(1→1)-glycerol, ο-β-D-galactosyl-(1→4)-ο-β-D-xylosyl-(1→2)-glycerol, ο-β-D-galactosyl-(1→4)-ο-β-D-xylosyl(1→3)-glycerolの3種の異性体からなる新規配糖体標品が得られた.
