Characterization of a β-galactosidase from Bacillus subtilis with transgalactosylation activity
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2018Microbial β-galactosidases (EC 3.1.2.23) have applications in the production of galacto-oligosaccharides, which are established prebiotic food ingredients. The β-galactosidase from Bacillus subtilis (YesZ) was expressed as a heterologous protein in Escherichia coli, and presented an optimum activity at pH 6.5 and 40 °C.

Whey valorization using transgalactosylation activity of immobilized β‐galactosidase
International Journal of Food Science and Technology, 2019SummaryWhey represents a significant dairy industry by‐product that has recently received due attention based on the rich nutrient composition and significant transformation potential. Hereby, we investigated a possibility of whey lactose bioconversion into prebiotic compounds, galacto‐oligosaccharides (GOS) using β‐galactosidase transgalactosylation ...

An extracellular β-glucosidase from the zygomycete Rhizomucor miehei NRRL 5282 cultivated in a wheat bran-based solid state fermentation system was characterized. The purified enzyme exhibited an optimum temperature of 68-70 °C and pH of 5.0. It efficiently hydrolyzed oligosaccharides having β-(1→4) glycosidic linkages and exhibited some β- and α ...

Identification and synthesis of a trisaccharide produced from lactose by transgalactosylation
Carbohydrate Research, 2000Enzymatic transgalactosylation of lactose by means of Streptococcus thermophilus, subspecies DN-001065, led to a mixture of D-galactose (approximately 4%), D-glucose (approximately 15%), lactose (approximately 51%), minor disaccharides (6%), trisaccharides (approximately 20%) and tetrasaccharides (3%).

Abstract In this study, enzymatic synthesis of galactoside of salicin, compound with potential physiological activity due to structural resemblance with galectin inhibitors, and analgesic and antipyretic properties of salicin, was performed using β-galactosidase from Aspergillus oryzae. It was determined, using HPLC and ion mobility mass spectrometry,

A β-galactosidase (β-GalINF) was directly isolated from feces of an 8-month-old infant. Mass spectrum analysis showed β-GalINF with coverage over 50% to the β-galactosidase from Bifidobacterium longum EK3. Accordingly, the β-galINF was amplified from the feces metagenomic DNA by degenerate primers.

Some findings in transgalactosylations employing modified donor substrates
Carbohydrate Research, 2014The scope of transgalactosylation with β-galactosidase (bovine testis) was studied employing a series of modified donor substrates based on p-nitrophenyl β-D-galactopyranoside and as uniform acceptor allyl 2-N-acetamido-2-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside.

Enzymatic modification of hydroxyethylcellulose by transgalactosylation with β-galactosidases
Carbohydrate Research, 1999beta-galactosidases from A. oryzae and a thermophilic CLONEZYME glycosidase library were used to catalyze the transfer of the beta-D-galactopyranosyl moiety from lactose to the hydroxyl groups of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) in sodium acetate buffer. The degree of substitution was quantified by using galactose oxidase enzymatic assays.
