Loss of perilipin 2 in cultured myotubes enhances lipolysis and redirects the metabolic energy balance from glucose oxidation towards fatty acid oxidation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2017
Lipid droplet (LD) coating proteins are essential for the formation and stability of intracellular LDs. Plin2 is an abundant LD coating protein in skeletal muscle, but its importance for muscle function is unclear.

Gestational diabetes mellitus- right person, right treatment, right time? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Personalised treatment that is uniquely tailored to an individual’s phenotype has become a key goal of clinical and pharmaceutical development across many, particularly chronic, diseases.

Dietary soy and meat proteins induce distinct physiological and gene expression changes in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study reports on a comprehensive comparison of the effects of soy and meat proteins given at the recommended level on physiological markers of metabolic syndrome and the hepatic transcriptome.

The transcription factor PHR1 regulates lipid remodeling and triacylglycerol accumulation in Arabidopsis thaliana during phosphorus starvation

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2015
Highlight This study reveals that the transcription factor PHR1 controls phospholipid/glycolipid substitution during P starvation, and that Arabidopsis accumulates triacylglycerol during P starvation. In roots this phenotype is also under control of PHR1.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Triacylglycerol synthesis in rat adipose tissue : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Adipose tissue consists of two types of cell; the adipocyte and the non-adipocyte {Rodbell, 1964). The adipocyte is unique amongst mammalian cell types in that one class of component {TG) comprises up to 80% of its weight.

Effect of high and low glycaemic index recovery diets on intramuscular lipid oxidation during aerobic exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Intramyocellular lipid (IMCL) and plasma NEFA are important skeletal muscle fuel sources. By raising blood insulin concentrations, carbohydrate ingestion inhibits lypolysis and reduces circulating NEFA.

PNPLA3 mediates hepatocyte triacylglycerol remodeling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
The I148M substitution in patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 (PNPLA3(I148M)) determines a genetic form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. To elucidate the mode of PNPLA3 action in human hepatocytes, we studied effects of WT PNPLA3 (PNPLA3(WT)) and PNPLA3(I148M) on HuH7 cell lipidome after [(13)C]glycerol labeling, cellular turnover of ...

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Quantification and Localisation of New Brain Lipid Synthesis Using Deuterium Oxide and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and mass spectrometry imaging were used in combination with deuterium oxide administration to quantify and localise newly synthesised myelin lipids in the mouse brain. This methodology, used here to show sites of myelin repair, enables the measurement of dynamic lipid synthesis in living systems and ...
