TRPC Channels and Alzheimer’s Disease
2017Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. The "amyloid hypothesis" is one of the predominant hypotheses for the pathogenesis of AD. Besides, tau protein accumulation, calcium homeostasis disruption, and glial cell activation are also remarkable features in AD.

Accumulating evidence suggest that TRPC channels play critical roles in various aspects of epileptogenesis. TRPC1/4 channels are major contributors to nonsynaptically derived epileptiform burst firing in the CA1 and the lateral septum. TRPC7 channels play a critical role in synaptically derived epileptiform burst firing.

TRPC Channels and Brain Inflammation
2017Nonresolving low-grade inflammation is supposed to underly the basis of chronic disorders including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and psychiatric disorders such as depression and Alzheimer's diseases. There is increasing evidence suggesting that pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders is related to the inflammatory responses ...

TRPC channels in vascular cell function
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2010SummaryThe mammalian transient receptor potential (TRP) superfamily of non-selective cation channels can be divided into six major families. Among them, the “classical” or “canonical” TRPC family is most closely related to Drosophila TRP, the founding member of the superfamily.

TRPC Channels in Health and Disease
2017This chapter offers a brief introduction of the functions of TRPC channels in non-neuronal systems. We focus on three major organs of which the research on TRPC channels have been most focused on: kidney, heart, and lung. The chapter highlights on cellular functions and signaling pathways mediated by TRPC channels.

The TRPCs–STIM1–Orai Interaction
2014Ca(2+) signaling entails receptor-stimulated Ca(2+) release from the ER stores that serves as a signal to activate Ca(2+) influx channels present at the plasma membrane, the store-operated Ca(2+) channels (SOCs). The two known SOCs are the Orai and TRPC channels.

In vivo TRPC functions in the cardiopulmonary vasculature
Cell Calcium, 2007Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the industrialized countries. The cardiovascular system includes the systemic blood circulation, the heart and the pulmonary circulation providing sufficient blood flow and oxygen to peripheral tissues and organs according to their metabolic demand.

Hyperforin: To Be or Not to Be an Activator of TRPC(6)
2015Meantime, it is well accepted that hyperforin, the chemical instable phloroglucinol derivative of Hypericum perforatum, St. John's wort, is the pharmacophore of St. John's wort extracts. With the decline of this scientific discussion, another controversial aspect has been arisen, the question regarding the underlying mechanism leading to the ...

TRPC Channels and Mental Disorders
2017Transient receptor potential canonical (TRPC) channels mediate the influx of different types of cations through the cell membrane and are involved in many functions of the organism. Evidences of involvement of TRPC channels in neuronal development suggest that this family of proteins might play a role in certain neurological disorders.

Physiological mechanisms of TRPC activation
Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 2005TRPC (canonical transient receptor potential) channels are vertebrate homologs of the Drosophila photoreceptor channel, TRP. Considerable research has been brought to bear on the seven members of this family, especially with regard to their possible role in calcium entry.
