Localization of serum resistance-associated protein in Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense and transgenic Trypanosoma brucei brucei.

open access: yesCellular microbiology, 2015
African trypanosomes infect a broad range of mammals, but humans and some higher primates are protected by serum trypanosome lytic factors that contain apolipoprotein L1 (ApoL1). In the human-infective subspecies of Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, a gene product derived from the variant surface glycoprotein gene family member, serum

Cytotoxicity and Antimicrobial Activity of GaMF1 Analogs

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 4, 25 February 2026.
GaMF1 is a reported, highly potent inhibitor of mycobacterial ATP synthase. Structural modification of this scaffold significantly changes biological activity. We present GaMF1 analogues with strong antiparasitic effects, potential antiproliferative properties, and discuss the selectivity limitations of the parent compound and its analogues.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of multidrug-resistant protein-encoding genes in Trypanosoma evansi isolated from buffaloes in Ngawi district, Indonesia [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2019
Background and Aim: Excessive use of trypanocidal drugs can lead to cases of drug resistance. Multiple cases of resistance have been widely reported for drugs such as isometamidium chloride and diminazene aceturate. These cases deserve serious attention,

Lipid metabolism in Trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 2010
Trypanosoma brucei membranes consist of all major eukaryotic glycerophospholipid and sphingolipid classes. These are de novo synthesized from precursors obtained either from the host or from catabolised endocytosed lipids. In recent years, substantial progress has been made in the molecular and biochemical characterisation of several of these lipid ...

Advances in the Role of Adipose Tissue in Promoting Injury Repair and Resist Infection

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background In recent years, adipose tissue (AT) transplantation has increasingly been noticed by many people in the field of tissue repair and regeneration. Accumulating evidence demonstrates that AT exerts dual functions in promoting tissue repair and conferring anti‐infective properties, with distinct biological effects attributed to its ...

Ruthenium‐Catalyzed CH Alkenylation of Trypanocidal Naphthoquinones: A Mechanistic Benchmarking Study

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.
Computational roadmap to click‐ready quinones. Quantum chemical analysis reveals how substituents modulate the reactivity of trypanocidal naphthoquinones in Ru‐catalyzed CH alkenylation, guiding the design of sulfonyl‐fluoride scaffolds for next‐generation antiparasitic agents.

Synthesis of biotinylated probes of artemisinin for affinity labeling

open access: yesData in Brief, 2015
In this data article, we described the synthetic routes to four biotinylated probes (2, 3, 4, and 5) of artemisinin and the associated experimental procedures. We also provided the physical data for the synthesized compounds.

Trypanosoma brucei infection protects mice against malaria.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2019
Sleeping sickness and malaria are parasitic diseases with overlapping geographical distributions in sub-Saharan Africa. We hypothesized that the immune response elicited by an infection with Trypanosoma brucei, the etiological agent of sleeping sickness,
