Cottonseed‐Derived Reusable Bio‐Carbon Gel Ink for DIW Printing Soft Electronic Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A reusable carbon‐gel ink, incorporating cottonseed peptone as a natural mediator, enables cross‐linked ionic polymer networks for advanced conductivity, stability, and biocompatibility. Compatible with direct‐ink‐writing, it facilitates flexible electronics on polymeric and textile substrates for multifunctional applications, including motion sensing,

Immunomodulating Activity and Therapeutic Effects of Short Chain Fatty Acids and Tryptophan Post-biotics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Crohn's disease (CD) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) are grouped as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). The IBD is associated to a multifaceted interplay between immunologic, microbial, genetic, and environmental factors.

Mussel‐Inspired Molecular Strategies for Fabricating Functional Materials With Underwater Adhesion and Self‐Healing Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines the nanomechanical mechanisms of mussel‐inspired molecular interactions, primarily investigated by direct force measurement techniques such as surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy. The macroscopic adhesive and self‐healing performances of mussel‐inspired functional materials, including coacervates ...

Validation of a model of regulation in the tryptophan operon against multiple experiment data using global optimisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper is concerned with validating a mathematical model of regulation in the tryptophan operon using global optimization. Although a number of models for this biochemical network are proposed, in many cases only qualitative agreement between the ...

Engineered Plasmonic and Fluorescent Nanomaterials for Biosensing, Motion, Imaging, and Therapeutic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A schematic illustration of how noble metals can be used to create nanoparticles (NPs) or nanoclusters (NCs). Noble metal NPs, due to their plasmonic properties, enable photothermal therapy and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). In contrast, NCs, which lack a plasmonic resonance band, exhibit fluorescence, making them ideal for bioimaging ...

Evidence indicating participation of the serotonergic system in controlling feeding behavior in Coturnix japonica (Galliformes: Aves) Evidência da participação do sistema serotonérgico no controle do comportamento alimentar em Coturnix japonica (Galliformes: Aves)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2005
We investigated participation of the brain serotonergic system in food intake control by using oral and systemic administration of serotonin precursors in quails (Coturnix japonica).

Mixed Ionic and Electronic Charge Transport in Conductive Protein Fibers Revealed with DC Electrical Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
M13 bacteriophage films deposited on micro interdigitated electrodes behave as a Randles simplified equivalent circuit under direct current. We derive contact and film resistance as well as capacitance of films of M13 phages, aromatic curli fibers or pilA‐containing nanowires.

Decoupling of Carrier Pathways in Au/Cu‐Zn3In2S6 Through Bulk Hole Trapping and Surface Hot Electron Accumulation Enhances Photocatalytic Hydrogen Peroxide Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We design and implement Au‐Cu co‐modified Zn3In2S6 catalyst with spatially decoupling charge carriers across bulk and surface sites, which effectively suppresses carrier recombination, drives surface hot electron accumulation and stabilizes intermediates for photocatalytic oxygen reduction. The optimized catalyst achieves an H2O2 evolution rate of 94.2

Tryptophan and Kynurenine Pathway Metabolites in Animal Models of Retinal and Optic Nerve Damage: Different Dynamics of Changes

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Kynurenines, products of tryptophan (TRP) metabolism, display neurotoxic (e.g., 3-hydroxykynurenine; 3-HK), or neuroprotective (e.g., kynurenic acid; KYNA) properties. Imbalance between the enzymes constituting the kynurenine pathway (KP) plays a role in
