Comparison of Hydroxypropylcellulose and Hot-Melt Extrudable Hypromellose in Twin-Screw Melt Granulation of Metformin Hydrochloride: Effect of Rheological Properties of Polymer on Melt Granulation and Granule Properties

open access: yesMacromol, 2021
High-molecular-weight hypromellose (HPMC) and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) are widely known, extended-release polymers. Conventional high-molecular-weight HPMCs are preferred in extended-release applications but not widely used in twin-screw melt ...

Twin screw granulation — A literature review [PDF]

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2015
Abstract This review article addresses the currently available literature on twin screw granulation (TSG). TSG is an emerging technology rapidly gaining interest in the pharmaceutical industry as a method of continuous wet granulation. The control of the geometry of the granulator over the formation of granules and the mechanisms of granulation are ...

Conceptualisation of an Efficient Particle-Based Simulation of a Twin-Screw Granulator

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2021
Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations have the potential to provide particle-scale understanding of twin-screw granulators. This is difficult to obtain experimentally because of the closed, tightly confined geometry.

Scaling of continuous twin screw wet granulation [PDF]

open access: yesAIChE Journal, 2016
Scaling rules were developed and tested for a continuous twin screw wet granulation process using three scales (11, 16, and 24 mm barrel diameter) of twin screw granulators (TSG). The distributive feed screw configuration used produced high porosity granules (50–60%) with broad bimodal size distributions, especially in the 16 and 24 mm TSGs.
