Soluble uric acid increases PDZK1 and ABCG2 expression in human intestinal cell lines via the TLR4-NLRP3 inflammasome and PI3K/Akt signaling pathway

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2018
Background In addition to the kidney, the intestine is one of the most important organs involved in uric acid excretion. However, the mechanism of urate excretion in the intestine remains unclear. Therefore, the relationship between soluble uric acid and

Upregulated Guanine Deaminase Is Involved in Hyperpigmentation of Seborrheic Keratosis via Uric Acid Release

open access: yes, 2021
Seborrheic keratosis, which is a benign tumor composed of epidermal keratinocytes, develops common in the elderly. Uric acid generated by upregulated guanine deaminase (GDA) has been identified to cause UV-induced keratinocyte senescence in seborrheic ...

Oral Astilbin Nanogels Modulate Senescence‐Associated CD4+ T Cells and Promote Treg Induction in Aged Mice with Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorinated β‐glucan/pectin nanogels enable colon‐targeted oral delivery of astilbin through gastrointestinal protection, β‐glucanase‐responsive release, mucus penetration, and prolonged retention. The released astilbin attenuates senescence‐associated features of CD4+ T cells and promotes Treg responses, while the nanogel matrix modulates the gut ...

Extra-renal elimination of uric acid via intestinal efflux transporter BCRP/ABCG2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Urinary excretion accounts for two-thirds of total elimination of uric acid and the remainder is excreted in feces. However, the mechanism of extra-renal elimination is poorly understood.

A System for Discovering Novel Uricosurics Targeting Urate Transporter 1 Based on In Vitro and In Vivo Modeling

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Hyperuricemia has become a global burden with the increasing prevalence and risk of associated metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Uricosurics act as a vital urate-lowering therapy by promoting uric acid excretion via the kidneys.

Structural Variants in the Human Genome Associated With Gut Microbiome and Blood Metabolic Traits With Potential Causal Links

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on a multi‐omics cohort of 2002 individuals comprising high‐depth whole‐genome and metagenomic sequencing data, blood metabolites, and detailed questionnaires, we identified 138 859 high‐confidence SVs, uncovering 36 significant SV–microbiome associations and 48 SV–blood metabolite associations.

Hypouricemic Effects of Ganoderma applanatum in Hyperuricemia Mice through OAT1 and GLUT9

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Ganoderma applanatum (G. applanatum) dispels wind to eliminate dampness and exhibited nephron- and liver-protective effects as noted in Chinese herbal classic literature; it might also affect hyperuricemia. Therefore, we examined the hypouricemia effects

Tubular Handling of Uric Acid and Factors Influencing Its Renal Excretion: A Short Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this review, the authors briefly examine the most recent evidence concerning the role of several proteins involved in tubular urate transport. They also analyse the influence of extracellular volume, electrolyte disorders, acid-base imbalance, and ...

A Novel Bioactive Component, Efoba, From Aged Garlic Targets CTSC to Suppress NET‐Driven Neuroinflammation and Ameliorate Secondary Brain Injury After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Efoba, a novel bioactive component derived from aged garlic, confers neuroprotection against intracerebral hemorrhage. It acts on microglia to suppress CTSC release, inhibits NET‐mediated neural injury, and blocks pathological microglia‐neutrophil crosstalk. This study provides a highly promising lead compound for hemorrhagic‐stroke therapy.
