Preparation of uridine diphosphogalactose and uridine diphosphate
Analytical Biochemistry, 1964Abstract A procedure for the production of UDP-Gal and UDP on a preparative scale has been elaborated using a bacterial mutant which accumulates UDP-Gal in the presence of galactose. This method provides several possibilities for labeling these compounds with radioactive isotopes.

Phosphorylation of uridine and cytidine by uridine–cytidine kinase
Journal of Biotechnology, 2014Uridine 5'-monophosphate (5'-UMP) and cytidine 5'-monophosphate (5'-CMP) were biosynthesized by recombinant uridine-cytidine kinase (UCK) and acetate kinase (ACK). The ack and uck genes from Escherichia coli K12 and the uck1, uck2 and ack genes from Lactobacillus bulgaricus ATCC 11842 were cloned and inserted into the plasmid pET-28a.

Uridine and other nucleic acids form part of RNA, DNA, coenzymes, second messengers, etc. Uridine uptake in nerve cells is an expression of neuronal RNA synthesis. More knowledge of uridine functions in neurones may give a better understanding of mechanisms underlying dementia, and they could be useful in treating brain tumors.

Brain uridine monophosphate: reduced incorporation of uridine during avoidance learning
Brain Research, 1974Abstract Avoidance training produced no detectable changes in the radioactivity incorporated from [5-3H]uridine into total RNA of mouse brain, but decreased the radioactivity in brain uridine monophosphate. The chemical response was largest in the subcortical forebrain, and did not occur in yoked control mice.

Uridine phosphorylase and uridine kinase activities of the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1969Uridine phosphorylase and uridine kinase in cell-free extracts of the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma were assayed by a radioactive-tracer technique. Under the assay conditions uridine phosphorylase had an optimum pH of 8.0 and an apparent Km value for uridine of 2.5 × 10−3 M.

Uridine Kinase: Altered Enzyme with Decreased Affinities for Uridine and CTP
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1998Uridine kinase is the rate-limiting enzyme in the salvage pathway for uridine or cytidine of mammalian cells. Alignment of the uridine kinase sequence with other nucleoside and nucleotide kinases supports a common ancestor for all of these. Three polypeptide segments for the ATP site and three polypeptide segments for the acceptor nucleoside site have ...

Feedback onhibition of uridine kinase by cytidine triphosphate and uridine triphosphate
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Nucleic Acids and Related Subjects, 1964Abstract Uridine kinase was found to be the rate-limiting step in the anabolism of uridine to its successive nucleotide derivatives. This enzymatic activity was susceptible to feedback inhibition by the pyrimidine nucleoside triphosphate end-products; effective inhibition was exerted by UTP and even more strikingly by CTP.
