University of Tennessee Libraries Website Focus Groups 2009 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In June 2009 the UT Libraries conducted focus groups with graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty. The purpose of the focus groups was to help guide implementation of the Primo search and delivery platform and associated redesign of the ...

Preparation of amino acids and derivatives and their effect on the growth of Lactobacillus arabinosus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1946
The d- and l-isomers of the following derivatives of valine, leucine, and tyrosine were prepared: the formyl, phthalyl, and prolyl derivatives of valine and leucine; the methyl ester hydrochlorides of valine and leucine; the glycyl derivatives of leucine;

The presence of valine at residue 129 in human prion protein accelerates amyloid formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The polymorphism at residue 129 of the human PRNP gene modulates disease susceptibility and the clinicopathological phenotypes in human transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.

Antioxidant Activity of New Aramide Nanoparticles Containing Redox-Active <em>N</em>-phthaloyl Valine Moieties in the Hepatic Cytochrome P450 System in Male Rats

open access: yesMolecules, 2012
We report the synthesis of aramide nanoparticles containing a chiral <em>N</em>-phthaloyl valine moiety and their antioxidant activities on hepatic contents of cytochrome P450, amidopyrene <em>N</em> ...

Neural Speech Synthesis on a Shoestring: Improving the Efficiency of LPCNet [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Neural speech synthesis models can synthesize high quality speech but typically require a high computational complexity to do so. In previous work, we introduced LPCNet, which uses linear prediction to significantly reduce the complexity of neural synthesis.

Diaqua(nitrato-κ2O,O′)bis(l-valine-κO)lead(II) nitrate at 296 K

open access: yesIUCrData, 2016
The structure of the title complex, [Pb(NO3)(C5H11NO2)2(H2O)2]NO3, had been determined previously at 173 and 193 K, and is now reported at 296 K, in the same space group.

Perceptual Vector Quantization For Video Coding [PDF]

open access: yesProc. SPIE 9410, Visual Information Processing and Communication VI, 941009 (March 4, 2015), 2016
This paper applies energy conservation principles to the Daala video codec using gain-shape vector quantization to encode a vector of AC coefficients as a length (gain) and direction (shape). The technique originates from the CELT mode of the Opus audio codec, where it is used to conserve the spectral envelope of an audio signal.

A High-Quality Speech and Audio Codec With Less Than 10 ms Delay [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, Vol. 18, No. 1, pp. 58-67, 2010, 2016
With increasing quality requirements for multimedia communications, audio codecs must maintain both high quality and low delay. Typically, audio codecs offer either low delay or high quality, but rarely both. We propose a codec that simultaneously addresses both these requirements, with a delay of only 8.7 ms at 44.1 kHz.

Mitochondrial tRNA Valine in Cardiomyopathies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders are a heterogeneous group of diseases that clinically involve multiple tissues although they tend to mainly affect nervous system and skeletal muscle. The predominance of neurologic and neuromuscular manifestations in mitochondrial diseases has generally masked the presence of other, but not less important ...

An Iterative Linearised Solution to the Sinusoidal Parameter Estimation Problem [PDF]

open access: yesComputers and Electrical Engineering (Elsevier), Vol. 36, No. 4, pp. 603-616, 2010, 2016
Signal processing applications use sinusoidal modelling for speech synthesis, speech coding, and audio coding. Estimation of the model parameters involves non-linear optimisation methods, which can be very costly for real-time applications. We propose a low-complexity iterative method that starts from initial frequency estimates and converges rapidly ...
