Circulating Levels of Vegf-A, VEGF-D and soluble VEGF-A Receptor (sFlt-1) in Human Breast Cancer
As circulating levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A) are raised in malignancy, the aim of this study was to investigate whether similar changes occur in two related factors, VEGF-D and the soluble VEGF-A receptor Flt-1 (sFlt-1). Circulating levels of VEGF-A, VEGF-D and sFlt-1 were determined by ELISA in 51 patients with primary breast ...

A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Treponema pallidum (syphilis) antigen TpF1 induces angiogenesis through the activation of the IL-8 pathway [PDF]
open15Over 10 million people every year become infected by Treponema pallidum and develop syphilis, a disease with broad symptomatology that, due to the difficulty to eradicate the pathogen from the highly vascularized secondary sites of infection, is ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Vascular endothelial growth factor restores delayed tumor progression in tumors depleted of macrophages [PDF]
Genetic depletion of macrophages in Polyoma Middle T oncoprotein (PyMT)‐induced mammary tumors in mice delayed the angiogenic switch and the progression to malignancy.

HGF and VEGF: A Dynamic Duo [PDF]
See related article, pages 300–307 The potent, proangiogenic effects of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have been the focus of many strategies to promote therapeutic angiogenesis. However, the dose-limiting proinflammatory side effects of VEGF (eg, increased vascular permeability, leukocyte adhesion, upregulated adhesion molecule ...

Adiponectin inhibits VEGF-A in prostate cancer cells
A role of adiponectin in tumorigenesis has recently been appreciated. Although plasma adiponectin levels in subjects with prostate cancer have been found to be significantly lower than in subjects with benign prostatic hyperplasia or in normal healthy controls, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unknown.

The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Cost effectiveness of treatments for wet age-related macular degeneration [PDF]
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of blindness in people aged >= 50 years. Wet AMD in particular has a major impact on patient quality of life and imposes substantial burdens on healthcare systems.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
