Very-long-chain fatty acids from lower organism
Folia Microbiologica, 1987The qualitative occurrence and quantitative proportion of very-long-chain fatty acids (above C22), mainly in lower organisms and briefly in higher plants and animals is described.

Very Long Chain Fatty Acid Synthesis in Sunflower Kernels
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2005Most common seed oils contain small amounts of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), the main components of oils from species such as Brassica napus or Lunnaria annua. These fatty acids are synthesized from acyl-CoA precursors in the endoplasmic reticulum through the activity of a dissociated enzyme complex known as fatty acid elongase.

Very-Long-Chain Fatty Acids and Phytanic Acid
2008The peroxisomes are subcellular organelles with a variety of biochemical functions, amongst which a system for beta-oxidation of very long-chain (C22-C26) fatty acids (VLCFA) and a system for alpha-oxidation of branched-chain fatty acids such as phytanic acid.

Very long chain fatty acids in higher animals—A review
Lipids, 1995AbstractFatty acids with greater than 22 carbon atoms (very long chain fatty acids, VLCFA) are present in small amounts in most animal tissues. Saturated and monoenoic VLCFA are major components of brain, while the polyenoic VLCFA occur in significant amounts in certain specialized animal tissues such at retina and spermatozoa.

Very Long‐Chain Fatty Acids in Erythrocyte Membrane Phospholipids in Adrenoleukodystrophy
Pediatrics International, 1989Mass fragmentography was used to analyze the very longchain fatty acid (VLCFA) composition of erythrocyte membrane phospholipids. The VLCFA content decreased in the order sphingomyelin (SM), phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). The tetracosanoic acid (C24:0) and hexacosanoic acid (C26:0) content of both SM and PC in patients with

The Role of Long-Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids in Very Preterm Nutrition
2022Infants born very preterm miss out on the in utero transfer of the omega-3 and omega-6 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids that occurs during the third trimester. A number of studies have explored the impact of increasing the enteral intakes of omega-3 +/- omega-6 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids to match fetal accretion rates in such infants.

Serum very long chain fatty acid pattern in Zellweger syndrome
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1984Very long chain fatty acids of serum were analyzed by gas chromatography in six patients with the cerebro-hepato-renal syndrome of Zellweger, in seven of their parents, and in ten normal children. Increased concentrations of hexacosanoic acid (C26:0) were consistently found in the Zellweger patients. The ratios C26:0/C22:0, C25:0/C22:0, and C24:0/C22:0

Very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) in plant response to stress
Functional Plant Biology, 2020Plant growth is affected by various stresses leading to changes in metabolism. Stress conditions include a variety of biotic and abiotic factors such as pathogens, drought, high and low temperatures and heavy metals. Among multiple physiological responses to stress, there is an adaptive modification in membrane lipid constituents.

A synthesis of unsaturated very long chain fatty acids
Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1990Abstract A general scheme for the preparation of unsaturated very long chain fatty acid methyl esters with between one and four (non-conjugated) double bonds, using the conjunctive reagent tosylmethylisocyanide, is outline. Specific details of the syntheses of 27:1, n-9; 28:1, n-7; 32:4, n-6 and 34:1, n-9 fatty acid methyl esters are provided.

Inhibitors of Biosynthesis of Very-Long-Chain Fatty Acids
2002Chloroacetamides have been used in maize, soybean or rice for about 50 years (Hamm 1974). During 1997/1998 in the USA, this class contributed to about 50% of the herbicides applied in corn and 11% in soybean (Anonymous 1999). Safeners have successfully broadened their use, and postemergence weed treatment has been improved by the concurrent application
