Immunohistochemical expression of intermediate filaments in diagnostics of diffuse gliomas.

open access: yesMedičnì Perspektivi, 2017
Intermediate filament proteins play an important role in maintaining a stable shape, as well as the possible movement of cells, including neoplastic cells.

Chemopreventive Effect of Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia) Juice on Pancreatic Carcinogenesis in LSL‐KrasG12D/+; p48Cre/+ Mice

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Herein, using the LSL‐KrasG12D/+; p48Cre/+ transgenic mouse model [that recapitulates the full spectrum of human disease, progressing from early pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia lesions to invasive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC)], we determined the chemopreventive effect of long‐term (chronic) administration of Bitter Melon Juice (

Intermediate Filaments of the Vimentin and Prekeratin Type in Human Epidermis

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1983
Monospecific antibodies to intermediate filaments of mesenchymally derived vimentin, applied to frozen sections of human skin, specifically stained dendritic basal and suprabasal cells. Cellular morphology, distribution, reaction pattern with anti-HLA-DR in serial sections, and OKT6 in double-staining procedures identified these cells as melanocytes ...

Organoid Coculture Models for Cancer Research and Immunotherapy

open access: yesMed Research, EarlyView.
This review summarizes organoid coculture platforms, including submerged Matrigel culture, air–liquid interface, microfluidic/organoid‐on‐a‐chip, and 3D bioprinting, for reconstructing the tumor microenvironment to study tumor–stroma/immune crosstalk, evaluate immunotherapies, and enable drug screening.

Vimentin Phosphorylation Is Required for Normal Cell Division of Immature Astrocytes

open access: yesCells, 2019
Vimentin (VIM) is an intermediate filament (nanofilament) protein expressed in multiple cell types, including astrocytes. Mice with VIM mutations of serine sites phosphorylated during mitosis (VIMSA/SA) show cytokinetic failure in fibroblasts and lens ...

Diacerein Disrupts Testicular Homeostasis: The Essential Role of Basal Cytokines in Maintaining Sertoli Cell Integrity and the Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pro‐inflammatory cytokines, TNF and IL‐1B, are essential for testicular homeostasis. Diacerein, an anti‐inflammatory drug, inhibits these cytokines, impairing M2 macrophages and Leydig cells (LCs). However, its impact on Sertoli cells (SCs) and M1 (CD68) macrophages remains unknown.

Mechanical Properties of Vimentin Intermediate Filament Networks [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2014
One marker of mesenchymal cells is the expression of vimentin intermediate filament (VIF) proteins, which assemble into networks. The cytoskeleton is typically comprised of these intermediate filament networks, actin, and microtubules. While some aspects of VIF networks have been characterized in bulk, their mechanical properties in situ have not been ...

Downregulation of KRTAP2‐3 Suppresses Proliferation and Tumor Formation of Oral Cancer Cells via Inactivation of KRAS Signals

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
KRTAP2‐3 drives OSCC progression by sustaining both mesenchymal and proliferative properties through KRAS signaling. Loss of KRTAP2‐3 induces MET, suppresses KRAS pathway activation, and markedly reduces tumor cell proiferation and tumor formation as illustarted in Figure.

Cultured Human Melanocytes Express the Intermediate Filament Vimentin

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1993
Human melanocytes are neural crest-derived cells that synthesize the pigment melanin. These cells migrate from a central location to the dermal-epidermal junction early in gestation and situate themselves between keratinocytes of the basal layer of the epidermis, extending thin dendritic processes upwards into the epidermis.

Dystonia-causing mutant torsinA inhibits cell adhesion and neurite extension through interference with cytoskeletal dynamics

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2006
Early onset torsion dystonia is a movement disorder inherited as an autosomal dominant syndrome with reduced penetrance. Symptoms appear to result from altered neuronal circuitry within the brain with no evidence of neuronal loss.
