Mechanism of Membrane Fusion by Viral Envelope Proteins
Enveloped viruses enter cells by fusing their lipid bilayer membrane with a cellular membrane. Most viral fusion proteins require priming by proteolytic processing, either of the fusion protein itself or of an accompanying protein. The priming step, which often occurs during transport of the fusion protein to the cell surface but may also occur ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Retrovirus-Induced Immunosuppression: Role of the Transmembrane Envelope Protein
Retroviruses induce immunosuppression in their infected hosts. This phenomenon is well described for the immunodeficiency viruses, with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) representing the best-studied example, but it also occurs in other ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Antibody-induced internalisation of retroviral envelope glycoproteins is a signal initiation event.
As obligate parasites, viruses highjack, modify and repurpose the cellular machinery for their own replication. Viral proteins have, therefore, evolved biological functions, such as signalling potential, that alter host cell physiology in ways that are ...

A bio‐inspired biopolymeric implantable drug delivery platform enables localized and sustained release of 7‐ethyl‐10‐hydroxycamptothecin (SN‐38) in solid tumor treatment. The three‐dimensional (3D) structured crosslinked‐chitosan implants are fabricated via 3D‐printed molds and provide drug release over 3 months, significantly inhibiting tumor growth ...

Arms Race between Enveloped Viruses and the Host ERAD Machinery
Enveloped viruses represent a significant category of pathogens that cause serious diseases in animals. These viruses express envelope glycoproteins that are singularly important during the infection of host cells by mediating fusion between the viral ...

Encoded Cell‐Material Interactions to Reroute Cytokine Signaling for Regenerative Medicine
We present native MATRIX (Material Activated To Regulate Inducible gene eXpression), a co‐engineered material‐cell platform. Surfaces functionalized with antibodies for endogenous soluble ligands (e.g., IL‐1β or IL‐6) capture and immobilize ligands for presentation to a cognate, engineered synthetic Notch receptor, releasing a transcription factor (TF)

Common principles and intermediates of viral protein-mediated fusion: the HIV-1 paradigm
Enveloped viruses encode specialized fusion proteins which promote the merger of viral and cell membranes, permitting the cytosolic release of the viral cores.
