Absolut “copper catalyzation perfected”; robust living polymerization of NIPAM : Guinness is good for SET-LRP [PDF]

open access: yes
The controlled polymerization of N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) is reported in a range of international beers, wine, ciders and spirits utilizing Cu(0)-mediated living radical polymerization (SET-LRP).

A Comprehensive Assessment and Benchmark Study of Large Atomistic Foundation Models for Phonons

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
We benchmark six large atomistic foundation models on 2429 crystalline materials for phonon transport properties. The rapid development of universal machine learning potentials (uMLPs) has enabled efficient, accurate predictions of diverse material properties across broad chemical spaces.

Profiling the Aroma of Grape Spirits for Port Wine Using a Multi-Analytical GC Approach and Sensory Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Port wine production involves the addition of grape spirit to halt fermentation and retain natural sweetness. This spirit, produced by distilling wine and its by-products, must comply with legal standards, including a mandatory sensory assessment ...

Lignans in Spirits: Chemical Diversity, Quantification, and Sensory Impact of (±)-Lyoniresinol

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
During barrel aging, spirits undergo organoleptic changes caused by the release of aroma and taste compounds. Recently, studies have revealed the bitter properties of oak wood lignans, such as (±)-lyoniresinol, and their contribution to wine taste.

Solving Data Overlapping Problem Using A Class‐Separable Extreme Learning Machine Auto‐Encoder

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The overlapping and imbalanced data in classification present key challenges. Class‐separable extreme learning machine auto‐encoding (CS‐ELM‐AE) is proposed, which is an enhancement of ELM‐AE that better handles overlapping data by clustering points from the same class together. Applying oversampling addresses imbalanced data.

Wine prices in the Nordic countries: Are they lower than in the region of origin? [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of this paper is to analyse the retail prices on wine in different countries. In general, country-specific price differences on identical wines are expected to reflect differences in taxes, import prices, transportation and other costs.

Shapley Additive Explanation for Local Class Differentiation: Local Explainability for Class Differentiation in Classification Models

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An instance‐level, model‐agnostic explanation of class differentiation is introduced through SHAP‐LCD, linking probability shifts to feature‐wise Shapley contributions. The method operates on tabular and image data and is released in a fully reproducible implementation, offering a transparent way to examine, at each instance, why predictive models ...
