Withanolides from Discopodium penninervium
Fitoterapia, 2023Discopodium penninervium is a medicinal plant endemic to Ethiopia. Its twigs extract led to the isolation of three new withanolides, discopodinolides A - C, and four known analogues. The structures of the compounds were elucidated using NMR, HRMS data analyses, and literature data.

Natural withanolides: an overview
Natural Product Reports, 2011Withanolides are a group of naturally occurring C28 steroids built on an ergostane skeleton functionalized at carbons 1, 22 and 26, commonly known as the withanolide skeleton. Over the period of August 1996 to March 2010, 360 new naturally occurring withanolides were isolated and identified.

Withanolide C, A chlorinated withanolide from Withania somnifera
Phytochemistry, 1992Abstract The structure of a new chlorinated withanolide isolated from Withania somnifera chemotype III has been elucidated as 5α-chloro,6β,14α,17β,2Oα F -tetrahydroxy-l-oxo-22R-witha-2,24-dienolide by 1 H and 13 CNMR and chemical ionization mass spectroscopy methods.
