Molecular dynamics simulations reveal the inhibitory mechanism of Withanolide A against α-glucosidase and α-amylase

Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 2022
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. The unsavory severe gastrointestinal side-effects of synthetic drugs to regulate hyperglycemia have warranted the search for alternative treatments ...

Induction of stress resistance and extension of lifespan in Chaenorhabditis elegans serotonin-receptor knockout strains by withanolide A.

Phytomedicine, 2021
INTRODUCTION Approximately 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression. The COVID-19 crisis may dramatically increase these numbers. Severe side effects and resistance development limit the use of standard antidepressants.

Withanolides from Discopodium penninervium

Fitoterapia, 2023
Discopodium penninervium is a medicinal plant endemic to Ethiopia. Its twigs extract led to the isolation of three new withanolides, discopodinolides A - C, and four known analogues. The structures of the compounds were elucidated using NMR, HRMS data analyses, and literature data.

Withanolide-A treatment exerts a neuroprotective effect via inhibiting neuroinflammation in the hippocampus after pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus.

Epilepsy Research, 2020
Status epilepticus (SE) is a medical emergency with high mortality and a risk factor for the development of chronic epilepsy. Given that effective treatments for the pathophysiology following SE are still lacking, suppressing pathophysiological ...

Natural withanolides: an overview

Natural Product Reports, 2011
Withanolides are a group of naturally occurring C28 steroids built on an ergostane skeleton functionalized at carbons 1, 22 and 26, commonly known as the withanolide skeleton. Over the period of August 1996 to March 2010, 360 new naturally occurring withanolides were isolated and identified.

Withanolide C, A chlorinated withanolide from Withania somnifera

Phytochemistry, 1992
Abstract The structure of a new chlorinated withanolide isolated from Withania somnifera chemotype III has been elucidated as 5α-chloro,6β,14α,17β,2Oα F -tetrahydroxy-l-oxo-22R-witha-2,24-dienolide by 1 H and 13 CNMR and chemical ionization mass spectroscopy methods.
