Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway inhibits the proliferation and apoptosis of U87 glioma cells via different mechanisms. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The Wnt signaling pathway is necessary for the development of the central nervous system and is associated with tumorigenesis in various cancers. However, the mechanism of the Wnt signaling pathway in glioma cells has yet to be elucidated. Small-molecule

Wnt Signaling Is Deranged in Asthmatic Bronchial Epithelium and Fibroblasts

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Both canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway alterations have been documented in pulmonary disease pathogenesis and progression; therefore, they can be an attractive target for pharmaceutical management of severe asthma. Wnt/β-catenin signaling

Axing Wnt signals [PDF]

open access: yesCell Research, 2011
Wnt signaling is a highly conserved and context-dependent signal transduction pathway that belongs to the so-called morphogens. Wnt signals are instrumental during development, but also play a central role in tissue homeostasis. For instance, in the intestine Wnt signaling is crucial for both stem cell maintenance and proliferation in the transient ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Wnt Signaling in the Gastrointestinal Tract in Health and Disease

open access: yesPhysiologia, 2023
Wnt signaling involves multiple pathways that contribute to organ development, cell fate, inflammation, and normal stem cell renewal and maintenance.

A single cell Wnt signaling niche maintains stemness of alveolar type 2 cells

open access: yesScience, 2018
Fibroblasts as lung stem cell niche Each breath that we take provides oxygen to the bloodstream via tiny sacs in the lung called alveoli. AT1 cells line the alveoli and mediate gas exchange, whereas AT2 cells secrete lung surfactant.

Targeting tumor vasculature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Targeting tumor vasculature is the common theme for the three separate studies presented in this thesis. The studies comprise the roles of components of three signaling pathways (networks) in several steps of blood vessel formation, and related tumor ...
