Non‐canonical PKG1 regulation in cardiovascular health and disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
It is well established that the cyclic GMP‐dependent protein kinase I (PKG1) is canonically activated by cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), enabling its regulation of vascular tone, cardiac function and smooth muscle homeostasis. However, diverse non‐canonical stimuli of PKG1 have also been identified.

Drosophila Melanogaster as a Model for Molybdo-Flavoenzyme Mediated Protection against Chemical and Physical Stress [PDF]

open access: yes
Aldehyde oxidase (AO) and xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) are molybdo-flavoenzymes (MFEs) involved in the oxidation of hundreds of endogenous and exogenous aldehydes and N-heterocyclic compounds many of which are drugs, vitamins and environmental ...

WN1703 alleviates gout symptoms via inflammatory signaling pathways in an acute gout rat model

open access: yesPharmaceutical Science Advances
We previously synthesized the xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) inhibitor WN1703. In addition to showing XOR inhibitory effects, WN1703 also showed anti-inflammatory effects in a rat hyperuricemia model. Here, we studied WN1703's anti-inflammatory effects on

Transgenic selection and underlying mechanisms in apicomplexan parasites

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Transgenic selection markers have driven genetic engineering in apicomplexans, enabling precise, iterative experiments. This review discusses mechanistic details of drug selection markers, strategies for marker recycling, and practical considerations for several clinically relevant parasites.

Xanthine oxidoreductase catalyses the reduction of nitrates and nitrite to nitric oxide under hypoxic conditions

open access: yes, 1998
Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) catalyses the reduction of the therapeutic organic nitrate, nitroglycerin (glyceryl trinitrate, GTN), as well as inorganic nitrate and nitrite, to nitric oxide (NO) under hypoxic conditions in the presence of NADH ...

Pretreatment of keratinocytes with Galactomyces ferment filtrate (GFF) promotes stress resiliency in an in vitro oxidative stress model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
GFF pretreatment enhances keratinocyte protection against oxidative stress by mitigating stress‐induced biomolecular changes and gene expression dysregulation. GFF‐pretreated keratinocytes maintain healthy epidermal biology post‐stress, preserving mitochondrial function and proliferative capacity.

Effects of cold water immersion versus active recovery on oxidative stress, redox gene expression and mitochondrial adaptations after strength training

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We compared the acute and chronic effects of postexercise cold water immersion (CWI) and active recovery (ACT) on oxidative stress, redox‐related gene expression, mitochondrial adaptations and muscle oxidative capacity. In a crossover study, nine males completed strength sessions, followed by either 10 min CWI or ACT.

Born early, age fast: Consequences of premature birth on chronic disease and accelerated ageing

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend ELGANs are exposed to several postnatal pro‐oxidant stressors, including ambient and supplemental oxygen, mechanical ventilation, infections, hyperalimentation, excessive glucocorticoids and intermittent hypoxia. Since endogenous antioxidant defences are underdeveloped, this imbalance promotes oxidative stress and inflammation ...

Omeprazole impairs vascular redox biology and causes xanthine oxidoreductase-mediated endothelial dysfunction

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2016
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are widely used drugs that may increase the cardiovascular risk by mechanisms not entirely known. While PPIs increase asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels and inhibit nitric oxide production, it is unknown whether ...

Targeted Mutagenesis Reveals Noncanonical Genetic Requirements for Carbon Monoxide Oxidation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 11, November 2026.
Using targeted mutagenesis, this study shows that form II CODH does not contribute to CO oxidation in the model carboxydovore Paraburkholderia terrae COX and reveals that canonical maturation pathways are not universally conserved. These findings refine genome‐based predictions of microbial metabolism and improve understanding of metalloenzyme assembly
