Vehicle yaw stability control and its integration with roll stability control

2008 Chinese Control and Decision Conference, 2008
The paper presents a vehicle yaw stability control (YSC) strategy devoted to prevent vehicles from spinning and drifting out. With yaw stability control system, counter braking was applied at individual wheels as needed until steering control and vehicle stability were regained. However, YSC system may not react properly to, or even deteriorate many on-

Yaw torque control of electric vehicle stability

2012 IEEE 6th International Conference on Information and Automation for Sustainability, 2012
The 7 degree of freedom (DOF) vehicle model and non-linear tire model were established based on the stability control of the electric vehicle with on-hub motors. Then the stability control strategy based on the yaw torque was presented. The idea sideslip angle at the center of gravity (COG) and idea yaw rate were calculated based on linear 2 DOF ...

Yaw moment control for vehicle stability in a crosswind

International Journal of Vehicle Design, 2005
Owing to the effect of wind disturbance on its behaviour, a vehicle may not follow the desired trajectory. This paper presents a new yaw moment control based on fuzzy logic to improve vehicle handling and stability in a crosswind. The main advantages of fuzzy methods are their simplicity and their good performance to control non-linear systems.

Yaw Stability Control of Tractor Semi-Trailers

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2008
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Tractor semi-trailer stability during emergency braking and steering maneuvers has been an issue that was improved through implementation of Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS). Although some improvements have been achieved, the need for new control methodologies is evident from the number of accidents reported by ...

Model Predictive Control for Vehicle Yaw Stability With Practical Concerns

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2014
This paper presents a method for electronic stability control (ESC) based on model predictive control (MPC) using the bicycle model with lagged tire force to reflect the lagged characteristics of lateral tire forces on the prediction model of the MPC problem for better description of the vehicle behavior.

Control oriented modeling for enhanced yaw stability and vehicle steerability

Proceedings of the 2004 American Control Conference, 2004
Emerging drivetrains open new possibilities in vehicle stability control. In this paper, we consider a vehicle powered by four independently driven wheel motors, one for each wheel, with steer-by-wire. We explore the possibilities of using steering and individual wheel acceleration on top of braking to enhance stability and steerability.

GA-based sliding mode controller for yaw stability improvement

2013 9th Asian Control Conference (ASCC), 2013
The vehicle handling and stability can be enhanced with direct yaw moment control (DYC). In this paper, a sliding mode controller (SMC) with genetic algorithm optimization is proposed for the yaw moment control. A single track vehicle model with nonlinear tire forces is utilized for the controller design. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is

Vehicle yaw stability control using the fuzzy-logic controller

2007 IEEE International Conference on Vehicular Electronics and Safety, 2007
The yaw stability of a vehicle is crucial to vehicle safety in steering manoeuvres. In this paper, a fuzzy-logic controller is designed for improving vehicle yaw stability by corrective yaw moment generated from differential braking so that the yaw rate and body sideslip angle can trace their desired values.

Yaw/Roll Stability Modeling and Control of HeavyTractor-SemiTrailer

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper sets up a simplified dynamic model for simulating the yaw/roll stability of heavy tractor-semitrailer using Matlab/Simulink. A linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based on partial-state feedback controller is used to optimize the roll stability of the vehicle.

A comparison of yaw stability control strategies for the active differential

Proceedings of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2005. ISIE 2005., 2005
In the area of active differential control, three principal control strategies for yaw stability control are utilised. These strategies include Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID), Single Input Single Output (SISO) H ∞ , and Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) H ∞ , where both yaw velocity and yaw acceleration are used as inputs to the ...
