DiPTH‐Cystine and PTH‐Cysteine in Disulfide Bond Analysis Using Automated Edman Degradation

open access: yesJournal of Peptide Science, Volume 31, Issue 10, October 2025.
The mystery of PTH‐cysteine and diPTH‐cystine in the analysis of disulfide bonds is solved. Both derivatives were synthesized and applied to Edman sequencing. A time‐efficient combined workflow applying Edman and MS/MS sequencing for a comprehensive analysis of the complex disulfide connectivity in peptides and proteins was developed.

Ageing‐induced weakness of mouse NMJs is associated with reduced active zone density, synaptic event kinetics and presynaptic calcium entry

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 20, Page 6445-6465, October 15, 2025.
Abstract figure legend A summary of age‐related changes contributing to reduced neurotransmission in mouse neuromuscular junctions (NMJ). At 26 months, NMJs showed potentiation in short‐term plasticity compared to 4‐ or 30‐month‐old synapses, which is a proxy for reduced probability of release within individual AZs (dashed arrow). Compared to NMJs from

Mitochondrial Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors Support Liver Cells Viability After Partial Hepatectomy

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) expressed on the cell plasma membrane are ligand-gated ion channels mediating fast synaptic transmission, regulating neurotransmitter and cytokine release and supporting the viability of many cell types.

Contributions of synaptic energetic dysfunction by microtubule dynamics and microtubule‐based mitochondrial transport disorder to morphine tolerance

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 17, Page 4058-4079, September 2025.
Abstract Background and Purpose Morphine is among the most powerful analgesic, but its long‐term use can cause tolerance. Synaptic ATP supply is critical for maintaining synaptic transmission. Microtubule‐based mitochondrial transport ensures synaptic energy supply.

Synthetic α-Conotoxin Mutants as Probes for Studying Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors and in the Development of Novel Drug Leads

open access: yesToxins, 2010
α-Conotoxins are peptide neurotoxins isolated from venomous marine cone snails that are potent and selective antagonists for different subtypes of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs).

Effects of C-Terminal Carboxylation on α-Conotoxin LsIA Interactions with Human α7 Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor: Molecular Simulation Studies

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
α-Conotoxins selectively bind to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), which are therapeutic targets due to their important role in signaling transmission in excitable cells. A previous experimental study has demonstrated that carboxylation of

Influence of Disulfide Connectivity on Structure and Bioactivity of α-Conotoxin TxIA

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
Cone snails express a sophisticated arsenal of small bioactive peptides known as conopeptides or conotoxins (CTxs). Through evolutionary selection, these peptides have gained the ability to interact with a range of ion channels and receptors, such as ...
