1,3,4-THIADIAZOLES FROM THIOSEMICARBAZIDES

Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Silicon and the Related Elements, 1991
Abstract A new method for the synthesis of 1,3,4-thiadiazoles is described. Thus condensation of 4-methyl-4phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with an aldehyde or ketone affords 1,1-disubstituted-6-[1-(arylethylidine) amino] −2,5-dithiobiureas, rather than the anticipated 4,4-disubstituted-3-thiosemicarbazones.

Syntheses of arylsulfonyl‐1,3,4‐thiadiazoles

Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 1996
AbstractReaction of sodium arylsulfinate with 2‐aryl‐5‐chloro‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole gave 2‐aryl‐5‐arylsulfonyl‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole (3) in good yield. Starting from readily available 2‐amino‐5‐benzylmercapto‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole compound 7 was obtained in three steps in moderate yield.

2-Amino-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2001
The structures of 2-amino-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole, C(3)H(5)N(3)S, and 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole, C(4)H(7)N(3)S, have been determined for comparison with unsubstituted 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole. Despite their different space groups (P2(1)/n and Pbca, respectively), the packing modes of the methyl and ethyl derivatives are similar, with ...

Recent Advances in the Chemistry of 1,3,4-Thiadiazoles

1968
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses homologs, functional groups, physical properties, and the uses of 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole. The development of 1, 3, 5- thiadiazole chemistry is linked to the discovery of phenylhydrazine and hydrazine. The numbering of the 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole ring follows from 1.

A new synthesis of symmetrical 2,5‐diaryl‐1,3,4‐thiadiazoles

Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 1983
AbstractTreatment of aromatic aldehydes with sulfur and hydrazine hydrate in the ratio 1:2:3, respectively, under the Willgerodt conditions affords the title compounds in excellent yields and in a good state of purity. Under the same conditions 2‐chloro and 2,6‐dichlorobenzaldehyde yield 3H‐1,2‐benzodithiole‐3‐thione and bis‐(2,6‐dichlorobenzyl ...
