A Shared Prebiotic Formation of Neopterins and Guanine Nucleosides from Pyrimidine Bases
The plausible prebiotic availability of 6‐aminopyrimidines makes the formation of purine nucleosides by Traube reaction an interesting pathway to explore. However, the formation of a pterin ring is the preferred outcome relative to purine nucleoside synthesis, which requires a high sugar excess to be significant.

In this review, we summarise the current human evidence of the use of cerebrospinal fluid metabolomics to detect neuroinflammation in acute and chronic neurological and psychiatric diseases. The review highlights the potential utility of metabolites involved in the tryptophan–kynurenine and nitric oxide pathway and neopterin as biomarkers for ...

The Structures of the Reoxidation Products of 7,8-Dihydroneopterin [PDF]
Abstract On the reduction of d-erythro-neopterin with sodium dithionite, after which it was let stand in neutral pH, three colorless compounds, I, II, and III, and two yellow compounds, I and II, were obtained. On the reduction of d-erythro-neopterin with Fe dust in 25% acetic acid, after which it was let stand at a neutral pH, two ...

Neopterin, Inflammation, and Oxidative Stress: What Could We Be Missing?
Neopterin has been extensively used as a clinical marker of immune activation during inflammation in a wide range of conditions and stresses. However, the analysis of neopterin alone neglects the cellular reactions that generate it in response to ...

One‐carbon metabolism, folate, zinc and translation
The translation machinery integrates the metabolism of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and phospahte via a tight association between one‐carbon metabolism and the zinc divalent ion. Summary The translation process, central to life, is tightly connected to the one‐carbon (1‐C) metabolism via a plethora of macromolecule modifications and specific effectors ...

7,8-Dihydroneopterin Upregulates Interferon-γ Promoterin T cells
Activated cell-mediated immunity is accompanied by elevated concentrations of interferon-gamma leading to the secretion of neopterin-derivatives which are known as sensitive immune activation markers in clinical laboratory diagnosis. Recent data imply a potential role of neopterin-derivatives in oxygen-free radical-mediated processes and a direct ...
