Harnessing ferroptosis from multilayer defense networks to nanoplatforms for specific cancer therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Nanomaterials target metabolically‐regulated ferroptosis for cancer therapy. Iron‐based or alternative nanoplatforms integrate ferroptosis with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiotherapy. They enable stimulus‐responsive therapies (photothermal, photodynamic, sonodynamic) activated by near‐infrared, light, or ultrasound, achieving potent synergistic ...

Dietary Lycium barbarum Polysaccharide Modulates Growth Performance, Antioxidant Capacity, and Lipid Metabolism in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) Fed with High-Fat Diet

open access: yesAntioxidants
To investigate the ameliorative effects and mechanism of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on growth performance, oxidative stress, and lipid deposition in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fed with high-fat diets, fish with an initial weight of 5.29 ± 0 ...

Berberine Reduces Pyruvate-driven Hepatic Glucose Production by Limiting Mitochondrial Import of Pyruvate through Mitochondrial Pyruvate Carrier 1Research in Context

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2018
Background: Mitochondrial pyruvate import via mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC) is a central step in hepatic gluconeogenesis. Berberine inhibits hepatic gluconeogenesis, but the mechanism is incompletely understood.

Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

Multiple resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS)- and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicides in black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) populations from Poland

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection Research, 2016
Alopecurus myosuroides seeds were sampled from 32 winter wheat fields from 2010 to 2014. Resistance to herbicides was detected in 17 A. myosuroides populations.

Enhanced Biosynthesis of Fatty Acids Is Associated with the Acquisition of Ciprofloxacin Resistance in Edwardsiella tarda

open access: yesmSystems, 2021
Misuse and overuse of antibiotics drive the selection and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Although genetic mutations have been well defined for different types of antibiotic resistance, ways to revert antibiotic resistance are largely unexplored.

Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.

Interaction of renin–angiotensin system and adenosine monophosphate–activated protein kinase signaling pathway in renal carcinogenesis of uninephrectomized rats

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
Renin–angiotensin system and adenosine monophosphate–activated protein kinase signaling pathway both play important roles in carcinogenesis, but the interplay of renin–angiotensin system and adenosine monophosphate–activated protein kinase in ...

Screening Phosphorylation Site Mutations in Yeast Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase Using Malonyl-CoA Sensor to Improve Malonyl-CoA-Derived Product

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Malonyl-coenzyme A (malonyl-CoA) is a critical precursor for the biosynthesis of a variety of biochemicals. It is synthesized by the catalysis of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (Acc1p), which was demonstrated to be deactivated by the phosphorylation of Snf1 ...

Regulation of hepatic acetyl coenzyme a carboxylase by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation

open access: yesArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1973
Partially purified acetyl-CoA carboxylase (EC 6.4.1.2) was activated several-fold by incubation with magnesium ions. The activation was inhibited by fluoride. Partially purified but not highly purified enzyme was inactivated by ATP in a reaction which was both time- and temperature-dependent.
