Sphingolipids in Emotional Well‐Being
Sphingolipids are essential constituents of neuronal membranes and are increasingly recognized as contributors to the key behavioral manifestations associated with emotional well‐being. ABSTRACT Emotional well‐being is a multifactorial concept, which comprises not only life quality of human individuals, but also their mental and physical health.

Sphingosine Phosphate Lyase Expression Is Essential for Normal Development in Caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]
Sphingolipids are ubiquitous membrane constituents whose metabolites function as signaling molecules in eukaryotic cells. Sphingosine 1-phosphate, a key sphingolipid second messenger, regulates proliferation, motility, invasiveness, and programmed cell ...

A Somatic Mutation in HIF‐2α Affects Glucose and Lipid Metabolism via CD36 and Ceramide
A mutation within the C‐terminal transactivation domain of HIF‐2α enhances Cd36 expression by increased transactivation activity, leading to ceramide accumulation and disruption of glucose and lipid metabolism. Inhibition of ceramide synthesis by myriocin reduces ceramide levels and ameliorates these metabolic disturbances.

Regulation of apoptosis-associated lysosomal membrane permeabilization [PDF]
Lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) occurs in response to a large variety of cell death stimuli causing release of cathepsins from the lysosomal lumen into the cytosol where they participate in apoptosis signaling.

Deletion of ASAH2 in intestinal epithelial cells induces the accumulation of ganglioside GD3 via regulating ST8SIA1. GD3 is identified as the glycolipid ligand for the inhibitory receptor Siglec‐E on macrophages. GD3/Siglec‐E ligation polarizes macrophages and promotes the proliferation of colonic ST2+ T regulatory cells via the induction of IL‐33. The

Activity-Based Imaging of Acid Ceramidase in Living Cells
Acid ceramidase (AC) hydrolyzes ceramides into sphingoid bases and fatty acids. The enzyme is overexpressed in several types of cancer and Alzheimer's disease, and its genetic defect causes different incurable disorders. The availability of a method for the specific visualization of catalytically active AC in intracellular compartments is crucial for ...

Sphingolipids are vital components of cell membranes. Metabolic disruptions of sphingolipids, including ceramide and sphingosine‐1‐phosphate, are linked to neurological disorders. This article summarizes the classification, structure, and metabolic processes of sphingolipids, and the physiological and pathological effects of sphingolipid metabolism and
