Adenosine receptor activation and nociception

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1998
Adenosine and ATP exert multiple influences on pain transmission at peripheral and spinal sites. At peripheral nerve terminals in rodents, adenosine A1 receptor activation produces antinociception by decreasing, while adenosine A1 receptor activation produces pronociceptive or pain enhancing properties by increasing, cyclic AMP levels in the sensory ...

Dynamics of receptor activation by agonists

Biophysical Journal
How do agonists turn on receptors? The model system we have used to address this question is the adult-type skeletal muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. This ligand-gated ion channel has two orthosteric sites (for neurotransmitters) in the extracellular domain linked to an allosteric site (a gate) in the transmembrane domain.

Vasopressin: Mechanisms of Receptor Activation

1983
Publisher Summary Vasopressin exerts a large variety of biological effects such as increased glycogenolysis and neoglucogenesis by liver cells and increased corticotrophin release by the adenohypophysis. This chapter presents an overview of the available pharmacological and biochemical data on vasopressin receptors in mammals.
