Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.

Systems-Genetics-Based Inference of a Core Regulatory Network Underlying White Fat Browning

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: Recruitment of brite/beige cells, known as browning of white adipose tissue (WAT), is an efficient way to turn an energy-storing organ into an energy-dissipating one and may therefore be of therapeutic value in combating obesity.

Exercise-Mediated Browning of White Adipose Tissue: Its Significance, Mechanism and Effectiveness

open access: yes, 2021
As a metabolic organ, adipose tissue plays an important role in regulating metabolism. In adults, most adipose tissue is white adipose tissue (WAT), and excessive expansion of WAT will lead to obesity.

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1059-1080, April 2025.
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

Cardiac natriuretic peptides promote adipose ‘browning’ through mTOR complex-1

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2018
Objective: Activation of thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue (BAT) and the ability to increase uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) levels and mitochondrial biogenesis in white fat (termed ‘browning’), has great therapeutic potential to treat obesity and its ...

Nutritional, Functional, and Anti‐Hypercholesterolemic Properties of Sourdough Breads From Unripe Plantain, Tiger Nut, and Fenugreek Flours

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Composite sourdough breads were developed from blends of unripe plantain, tiger nut, and fenugreek flours. Optimized formulations improved pasting stability and enhanced texture, producing softer more elastic crumbs. The enriched breads contained higher dietary fiber and bioactive compounds, and significantly reduced serum cholesterol markers ...

PNPLA7 mediates Parkin-mitochondrial recruitment in adipose tissue for mitophagy and inhibits browning

open access: yesNature Communications
PINK1/Parkin-mediated ubiquitin-dependent mitophagy is a critical negative regulatory machinery for browning in the inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT). However, the precise regulatory mechanism underlying PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy during browning

Diffuse optical spectroscopy and imaging to detect and quantify adipose tissue browning

open access: yes, 2017
Adipose (fat) tissue is a complex metabolic organ that is highly active and essential. In contrast to white adipose tissue (WAT), brown adipose tissue (BAT) is deemed metabolically beneficial because of its ability to burn calories through heat ...
