Muscle wasting and adipose tissue browning in infantile nephropathic cystinosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BackgroundMuscle wasting is a common complication in patients with infantile nephropathic cystinosis, but its mechanism and association with energy metabolism is not known.

Endogenous Engineering Reprograms Extracellular Vesicles for Enhanced Therapeutic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explains how Extracellular vesicles‐producing cells can be endogenously engineered to load therapeutic proteins and nucleic acids. We summarize physiological and genetic strategies that harness native sorting pathways for selective cargo loading.

Natural Resistance to Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome in Estrildid Finches Reveals Macrophage GPR183 as a Potential Therapeutic Target

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ovarian macrophage depletion reverses OHSS resistance in estrildid finches and exacerbates OHSS symptoms in rats. Activating macrophage GPR183 alleviates OHSS by reducing pro‐inflammatory factors, increasing immunomodulatory molecules, remodeling CD44/SDC4‐mediated communication, and restoring immune homeostasis.

Brown adipose tissue in humans

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 2015
In spite of the long history of evidence for brown adipose tissue (BAT) in adult humans (1), the evidence of its functionality was missing.

The tumor suppressor FLCN mediates an alternate mTOR pathway to regulate browning of adipose tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Noncanonical mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathways remain poorly understood. Mutations in the tumor suppressor folliculin (FLCN) cause Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome, a hamartomatous disease marked by mitochondria-rich kidney tumors. FLCN functionally

Brown Adipocyte Sheets Alleviate Myocardial Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury Through NRG4–ErbB4–Dependent Ferroptosis Inhibition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Brown adipocyte sheets are engineered to protect the heart against myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury by restraining ferroptosis. Upon transplantation onto the cardiac surface, they improve cardiac function, limit infarction and fibrosis, and enhance angiogenesis.

Oncostatin m impairs brown adipose tissue thermogenic function and the browning of subcutaneous white adipose tissue

open access: yes, 2016
© 2016 The Obesity Society Objective: Since oncostatin m (OSM) is elevated in adipose tissue in conditions of obesity and type 2 diabetes in mice and humans, the aim of this study was to determine whether this cytokine plays a crucial role in the ...

Stage‐Specific H3K14 and H3K23 Succinylation Orchestrates Insect Metamorphosis and Oogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stage‐specific succinylation of histone H3 at lysine 14 and 23 differentially controls insect metamorphosis and oogenesis through distinct GPCR‐PKC signaling cascades, revealing an evolutionarily conserved epigenetic mechanism that coordinates key life‐history traits.

Perilipin-2 deletion promotes carbohydrate-mediated browning of white adipose tissue at ambient temperature

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2018
Mice lacking perilipin-2 (Plin2-null) are resistant to obesity, insulin resistance, and fatty liver induced by Western or high-fat diets. In the current study, we found that, compared with WT mice on Western diet, Plin2-null adipose tissue was more ...

Role of adipocyte browning in prostate and breast tumor microenvironment

open access: yesTzu Chi Medical Journal, 2022
Prostate cancer (PC) and breast cancer (BC) are the most common cancers in men and women, respectively, in developed countries. The increased incidence of PC and BC largely reflects an increase in the prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome.
