Lactoferrin Deficiency During Lactation Causes Adult Obesity‐Related Metabolic Disease Through Persistent Adipose Dysfunction Driven by Impaired Adipocyte Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactational lactoferrin deficiency exerts lasting effects on epididymal adipose tissue development from lactation into adulthood: it impairs adipocyte hyperplasia and induces pathological hypertrophy, resulting in lower body weight yet exacerbated metabolic dysfunction under a high‐fat diet in adulthood.

Dietary kaempferol exerts anti-obesity effects by inducing the browing of white adipocytes via the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
Browning of white adipose tissue is a novel approach for the management of obesity and obesity-related metabolic disorders. Kaempferol (KPF) is a common dietary nutrient found abundantly in many fruits and vegetables and has been shown to have the ...

NMI Regulates Adipose Adaptive Thermogenesis Through TLR4/IRF3 Signaling to Promote Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adipose tissue‐derived NMI is secreted under metabolic stress and suppresses adaptive thermogenesis through TLR4/IRF3 signaling, repressing the PPARα/PGC‐1α/UCP1 thermogenic transcriptional program. Genetic ablation or anti ‐ NMI monoclonal antibody treatment enhances energy expenditure, protects against DIO, and ameliorates adipose tissue inflammation,

The Browning of White Adipose Tissue: Some Burning Issues

open access: yes, 2014
Igniting thermogenesis within white adipose tissue (i.e., promoting expression and activity of the uncoupling protein UCP1) has attracted much interest.

Beyond Potency: Emerging Determinants and Optimization Strategies Enhancing Therapeutic Efficacy of Adult Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adult stem cell therapy requires more than high in vitro potency. This review proposes a systems framework in which cell‐intrinsic programs, instructive microenvironmental cues, and pre‐/post‐delivery engineering are co‐designed under standardized translational rules.

Deceptive Brown Adipose Tissue

open access: yesJournal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies
A 23-year-old female presented with headache, palpitation, and hypertensive spells. There was no similar family history. Twenty-four (24) hour urine testing showed elevated normetanephrine level with normal metanephrines [metanephrines 123 mcg/24 hrs (74-297); normetanephrines 5321.16 mcg/24 hrs (73-808)].

Chronic cold exposure: A white adipose tissue browning factor

open access: yes, 2015
In the human body, there are two major subtypes of adipose tissue, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). Using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), an intravenously administered radioactive glucose analog, it was demonstrated with positron ...

Wood‐Based Bioelectronics: Lignosulfonate‐Based Conductive Biocomposites for Paper Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Biodegradable wood‐based bioelectronics are realized by integrating poly (2,3‐ethylenedioxythiopene:lignosulfonate (PEDOT:LigS) as a mixed ionicelectronic channel in organic electrochemical transistors fabricated on paper substrates. The biocomposite exhibits high conductivity, biocompatibility, and strong transistor performance, while devices built on

Quantitative assessment of masticatory muscles based on skull muscle attachment areas in Carnivora

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Masticatory muscles are composed of the temporalis, masseter, and pterygoid muscles in mammals. Each muscle has a different origin on the skull and insertion on the mandible; thus, all masticatory muscles contract in different directions. Collecting in vivo data and directly measuring the masticatory muscles anatomically in various Carnivora ...
