Detection of amastigote-like forms in the valve of Phlebotomus papatasi infected with Leishmania major [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2003
A massive and homogeneous amount of amastigote-like forms was detected in the stomodeal valve (SV) and the thoracic mid-gut (TMG) of Leishmania major-infected Phlebotomus papatasi, which received a second blood meal 13 to 21 days post-infection on ...

Revealing Annexin A2 and ARF-6 enrollment during Trypanosoma cruzi extracellular amastigote-host cell interaction

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Invasion of host cells by Trypanosoma cruzi extracellular amastigotes is host actin polymerization-dependent. However, the role of proteins related to actin dynamics during invasion by amastigotes remains to be investigated.

Role of Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis amastigote glycosphingolipids in macrophage infectivity [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2007
The role of glycosphingolipids (GSLs) present in amastigote forms of Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis during infection of macrophages was analyzed, with particular emphasis on GSLs presenting the terminal Galpß1-3Galpa disaccharide.

Dicentrine, an Aporphine Alkaloid From Ocotea langsdorffii, Induces Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Oxidative Stress in Leishmania (L.) infantum. [PDF]

open access: yesChem Biodivers
Dicentrine, an aporphine alkaloid, exhibits potent in vitro antileishmanial activity against Leishmania species with high selectivity and low macrophage cytotoxicity. Mechanistic studies reveal that the compound triggers parasite death possibly by inducing mitochondrial membrane disruption and oxidative stress.

Murine T Cell-Dependent Response Affects Leishmania amazonensis Amastigote Survival and Virulence. [PDF]

open access: yesCell Biol Int
ABSTRACT Our group has previously described the infection course of Leishmania amazonensis in BALB/c and BALB/cnu/nu mice, which have distinct T‐cell dependent responses. In this study, lesion‐derived amastigotes exhibited differential protein expression in a host‐dependent manner.

Probing 5-Nitroimidazole-Triazole Hybrids as Potential Anti-Kinetoplastid Agents: Synthesis and In Vitro Efficacy. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem
A series of 5‐nitroimidazole‐1,2,3‐triazole hybrids was synthesised and evaluated for antitrypanosomatid activity to assess their potential as treatments against leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis. No notable in vitro activity against Leishmania was detected.

Axenic cultivation and characterization of Leishmania mexicana amastigote-like forms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A new method is described which has made possible the long-term axenic cultivation of Leishmania mexicana amastigote-like forms in Schneider's Drosophila medium supplemented with 20% (v/v) foetal calf serum.

Pyridyl-Thiazole-Thiosemicarbazones as Antitrypanosomatidae Agents: Design, Synthesis, and In Silico Profiling. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem
A novel pyridine–thiazole derivative, Compound 8, exhibited potent dual antitrypanosomatid activity. It demonstrated remarkable in vitro efficacy against Trypanosoma cruzi (IC50 = 1.0 µM) and L. amazonensis (IC50 = 3.9 µM). Molecular docking studies suggested interactions with heme and multiple molecular targets.

Amastigote Synapse: The Tricks of Trypanosoma cruzi Extracellular Amastigotes [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
To complete its life cycle within the mammalian host, Trypanosoma cruzi, the agent of Chagas' disease, must enter cells. Trypomastigotes originating from the insect vector (metacyclic) or from infected cells (bloodstream/tissue culture-derived) are the classical infective forms of the parasite and enter mammalian cells in an actin-independent manner ...

Infectivity of amastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi [PDF]

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 1986
The infectivity amastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, isolated from the supernatant of the J774G8 macrophage-like cell line infected with trypomastigotes to normal macrophages in vitro was tested. After a period of 1 h of T. cruzi-macrophage interaction about 2% of the mouse peritoneal macrophages had ingested amastigotes.
