Identification of sialic acids on Leishmania donovani amastigotes [PDF]
AbstractThe presence of Neu5Ac on promastigotes of Leishmania donovani, the causative organism of Indian visceral leishmaniasis, has been reported recently. Here we report the occurrence of Neu5Ac as a major component on amastigotes, as well as Neu5Gc, Neu5,9Ac2 and Neu9Ac5Gc as indicated by fluorimetric high performance liquid chromatography and gas ...

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) extract significantly reduced oocyst shedding and intestinal lesions in immunosuppressed mice infected with Cryptosporidium parvum, while enhancing antioxidant defences (GPx, TAC). These findings suggest chamomile as a promising phytotherapeutic agent for cryptosporidiosis. ABSTRACT Background Cryptosporidiosis, caused

Synthesis of Xylitan Derivatives and Preliminary Evaluation of in Vitro Trypanocidal Activity
A series of novel xylitan derivatives derived from xylitol were synthesized using operationally simple procedures. A xylitan acetonide was the key intermediate used to prepare benzoate, arylsulfonate esters and 1,2,3-triazole derivatives of xylitan ...

ABSTRACT Trypanosoma cruzi undergoes heat stress during its life cycle. In this study, we performed a transcriptomic analysis of the heat shock response in epimastigotes from different T. cruzi strains. In both clone CL Brener and the Y strain, very few to no statistically significant variations were observed in the transcriptome at 37°C, whereas ...

Translational control through eIF2alpha phosphorylation during the Leishmania differentiation process. [PDF]
The parasitic protozoan Leishmania alternates between an invertebrate and a mammalian host. Upon their entry to mammalian macrophages, Leishmania promastigotes differentiate into amastigote forms within the harsh environment of the phagolysosomal ...

Organometallic derivatization of existing drugs is a common strategy to look for new drug candidates. This work describes the derivatization of the benzimidazole anthelmintic scaffold, from the synthesis of the organometallic derivatives to the evaluation of their biological properties. It highlights a broad range of antiparasitic activities and leaves

Elimination of Leishmania donovani amastigotes by activated macrophages [PDF]
Tissue macrophages are the obligatory host cells for Leishmania donovani, the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis. In this study we sought to determine whether activated macrophages, as defined by the functional criterion of tumor cell cytotoxicity, were also able to exert a microbicidal effect on ingested L. donovani amastigotes.
