CD4+ T Cell-Dependent Macrophage Activation Modulates Sustained PS Exposure on Intracellular Amastigotes of Leishmania amazonensis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2019
Leishmania amazonensis amastigotes can make use of surface-exposed phosphatidylserine (PS) molecules to promote infection and non-classical activation of macrophages (MΦ), leading to uncontrolled intracellular proliferation of the parasites.

Identification of a Benzenesulfonylpiperazine Derivative With In Vivo Efficacy Against Visceral Leishmaniasis

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 2, August 2026.
This work highlights the satisfactory pharmacokinetic profile of two benzenesulfonylpiperazine lead candidates, followed by in vivo assessment in a murine model of visceral leishmaniasis. This assessment identified compound 2 as moderately active at a lower dose, but its efficacy increased at higher doses, though with concerns regarding safety.

An Observation of the Transitional Forms between Trypomastigote and Amastigote of Trypanosoma cruzi by Scanning Electronmicroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The transformation process between the trypomastigote and the amastigote was studied by Scanning Electronmicroscopy (SEM). The exclusive process from the trypomastigote to the amastigote was accomplished by incubating trypomastigotes in LIT medium while ...

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 7, Page 990-1015, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Extracellular cultivation and morphological characterization of amastigote-like forms of Leishmania panamensis and L. braziliensis

open access: yes, 1989
Two strains of the Leishmania braziliensis complex have been adapted to grow extracellularly at elevated temperature as amastigote-like forms in a cell-free medium.

Recombinant LPG3 Protein From Leishmania chagasi as an Antigen for the Diagnosis of Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 31, Issue 8, Page 1057-1065, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a human neglected tropical disease in which dogs participate as reservoirs of the etiological agent Leishmania chagasi. The identification of infected dogs is important to the control of VL, and recombinant proteins are strong antigen candidates for canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) serodiagnosis. In this work,

Timing of developmental changes associated with amastigote differentiation in PEMs.

open access: yes, 2022
(A) Parasite flagella were identified at different time points following infection of PEMs with anti-LPG (≤ 8 h post infection) or mAb T17 at longer time points.

Compared Antileishmanial Activity of Clomiphene and Tamoxifen

open access: yesBiomedicines
Drug repositioning is an efficient strategy to search for new treatment alternatives that is especially valuable for neglected parasitic diseases such as leishmaniasis. Tamoxifen and raloxifene are selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) that have
