Effects of Lycium barbarum Residue Substituting Dietary Maize on Fecal Microbiota and Growth Performance of Crossbred Simmental Cattle

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The bioactive substances we extracted from Lycium barbarum residue (LBR) have a typical polysaccharide structure. When 1.80% LBR was used to replace maize in the diet, the average daily gain of rossbred Simmental was significantly increased, and anti‐inflammatory ability was improved. In addition, LBR improved the fecal microbial composition, increased

Synergistic Enhancement of Antioxidant Activity in Arbutus unedo Leaf Extract by Biological Fluids: Implications for Functional and Nutraceutical Applications

open access: yesBiotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examined the effect of biological fluids (saliva, blood plasma, and urine) on the antioxidant capacity of an aqueous extract derived from Arbutus unedo leaves. The extract displayed a concentration‐dependent reducing activity in the ferric reducing power assay (IC50 = 292 ± 7.54 µg/mL) and phosphomolybdenum assays (IC50 = 461.67 ± 4.

Genistein: a novel anthocyanin synthesis promoter that directly regulates biosynthetic genes in red cabbage in a light-dependent way

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Genistein (GNT), an isoflavone, is used in the clinical treatment of various health disorders. GNT is found in primary food source plants and some medical plants. However, studies on the functions of GNT in plants are rarely reported.

Overexpression of R2R3-MYB gene leads to accumulation of anthocyanin and enhanced resistance to chilling and oxidative stress

open access: yes, 2014
LeAN2 encoding an anthocyanin-associated R2R3-MYB transcription factor was isolated from tomato. The expression of LeAN2 in tomato was induced by low temperature and oxidative stress.

Spouted bed drying parameters and adjuvant effects on polyphenol retention and antioxidant activity in mango peel powders

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Spouted bed drying of mango peels with colloidal SiO2 and corn starch produces a free‐flowing powder with reduced agglomeration, increased drying yield, and preserved antioxidant and polyphenol content. Abstract The production of polyphenol‐rich powders is a promising strategy for valorizing agro‐industrial byproducts. This study evaluated drying yield,

Healthy Snacks Elaborated With Decoction Residues of Hibiscus sabdariffa L: Physical and Sensory Characteristics

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Healthy snacks formulated with food by‐products are gaining interest within the food industry. Decoction residues of Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle) retain thermostable polyphenols. Extruded snacks enriched with roselle showed a reduction in the expansion index as the roselle concentration increased.
