NADP‐Dependent Isocitrate Dehydrogenase from Arabidopsis Roots Contributes in the Mechanism of Defence against the Nitro‐Oxidative Stress Induced by Salinity

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
NADPH regeneration appears to be essential in the mechanism of plant defence against oxidative stress. Plants contain several NADPH‐generating dehydrogenases including isocitrate dehydrogenase (NADP‐ICDH), glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH), 6‐phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGDH), and malic enzyme (ME).

Effects of Cadmium on Phenolic Composition and Antioxidant Activities of Erica andevalensis

open access: yesJournal of Botany, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We evaluated the effects of cadmium on phenolic composition of Erica andevalensis, an endemic protected heather that grows in mine affected soils. Plants cultivated under laboratory‐controlled conditions were exposed to acute doses of cadmium to investigate the mechanisms this species possesses to survive in the presence of toxic metals in its natural ...

Quercetin Treatment Ameliorates Systemic Oxidative Stress in Cirrhotic Rats

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Our aim was to investigate whether the antioxidant quercetin protects against liver injury and ameliorates the systemic oxidative stress in rats with common bile duct ligation. Secondary biliary cirrhosis was induced through 28 days of bile duct obstruction. Animals received quercetin (Q) after 14 days of obstruction.

Physiological roles of lignins – tuning cell wall hygroscopy and biomechanics

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 6, Page 2674-2706, December 2025.
Summary Lignins constitute the second most abundant carbon‐storing biopolymers in the biosphere. These phenolic polymers accumulate in different concentrations, compositions, and localisations within and between cell wall layers and cell types. Lignins were acquired during plant terrestrialisation 450 million years ago, and the diversification of their

Identification and Characterization of Phytochemicals in Avocado (Persea americana Mill, var. Hass) Fruit at Different Maturation and Ripening Stages

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is currently among the most demanded fruit crops worldwide due to its nutritional and health benefits. Despite the abundance of reports that have chemically and nutritionally characterized the fruit, information about the characterization of the fruit’s phytochemicals at specific maturation and ripening stages is still ...
