Antineoplastic and Antitrypanosomal Properties of Propolis from Tetragonula biroi Friese

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Propolis, popularly known as bee glue, is a resinous, sticky substance produced by different bee species across the globe. Studies on the biological properties of propolis from the Philippines are rare.

Antiparasitic Activities of Compounds Isolated from Aspergillus fumigatus Strain Discovered in Northcentral Nigeria

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
In this study, we explored a fungal strain UIAU-3F identified as Aspergillus fumigatus isolated from soil samples collected from the River Oyun in Kwara State, Nigeria. In order to explore its chemical diversity, the fungal strain UIAU-3F was cultured in

Antiprotozoal Activity of Azabicyclo-Nonanes Linked to Tetrazole or Sulfonamide Cores

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
N-(Aminoalkyl)azabicyclo[3.2.2]nonanes possess antiplasmodial and antitrypanosomal activity. A series with terminal tetrazole or sulfonamido partial structure was prepared. The structures of all new compounds were confirmed by NMR and IR spectroscopy and

Exploration of Chemical Diversity and Antitrypanosomal Activity of Some Red Sea-Derived Actinomycetes Using the OSMAC Approach Supported by LC-MS-Based Metabolomics and Molecular Modelling

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
In the present study, we investigated the actinomycetes associated with the Red Sea-derived soft coral Sarcophyton glaucum in terms of biological and chemical diversity. Three strains were cultivated and identified to be members of genera Micromonospora,

Antitrypanosomal Activities of Proteasome Inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2002
ABSTRACT Seven peptidyl proteasome inhibitors were tested for in vitro activity against Trypanosoma brucei bloodstream forms. Two compounds showed activity in the low nanomolar range. In general, trypanosomes were more susceptible to the compounds than were human HL-60 cells.

In Vitro Assessment of Antiplasmodial and Antitrypanosomal Activities of Chloroform, Ethyl Acetate and Ethanol Leaf Extracts of Oedera genistifolia

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The high resistance evolution of protozoans to the existing antiparasitic drugs has necessitated the quest for novel and effective drugs against plasmodium and trypanosome parasites.

Structure-Activity Relationship Study of Sesquiterpene Lactones and Their Semi-Synthetic Amino Derivatives as Potential Antitrypanosomal Products

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
Sesquiterpene lactones (STLs) are natural products that have potent antitrypanosomal activity in vitro and, in the case of cynaropicrin, also reduce parasitemia in the murine model of trypanosomiasis.

Antiparasitic Behavior of Trifluoromethylated Pyrazole 2-Amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole Hybrids and Their Analogues: Synthesis and Structure-Activity Relationship

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
A series of trifluoromethylated pyrazole thiosemicarbazone, trifluromethylated pyrazole isothiosemicarbazone, and trifluoromethylated pyrazole 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole hybrids were synthesized and evaluated in vitro against the promastigote form of ...

Synthesis and antitrypanosomal activities of novel pyridylchalcones [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2017
A library of novel pyridylchalcones were synthesised and screened against Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. Eight were shown to have good activity with the most potent 8 having an IC50 value of 0.29 μM. Cytotoxicity testing with human KB cells showed a good selectivity profile for this compound with a selectivity index of 47.

Chagas disease treatment efficacy markers: experiences from a Phase III study with nifurtimox in children

open access: yesFrontiers in Parasitology, 2023
Determining the success of antitrypanosomal therapy for Chagas disease is challenging, particularly in the chronic phase of the disease, because seropositivity persists for a long time after successful antitrypanosomal treatment and is known to be ...
