Adipocyte Liver Kinase b1 Suppresses Beige Adipocyte Renaissance Through Class IIa Histone Deacetylase 4 [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes, 2017
Uncoupling protein 1+ beige adipocytes are dynamically regulated by environment in rodents and humans; cold induces formation of beige adipocytes, whereas warm temperature and nutrient excess lead to their disappearance. Beige adipocytes can form through de novo adipogenesis; however, how “beiging” characteristics are maintained afterward is largely ...

The DMHGABA Neurons Play a Crucial Role in the Regulation of Cold‐Induced White Adipose Browning through DMH to LPO Projection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 5, 27 January 2026.
GABAergic neurons in the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMHGABA neurons) act as a key neuronal population controlling cold exposure‐induced white adipose tissue browning. DMHGABA neurons regulate the browning through DMH to the lateral preoptic area (LPO) projection.

Induction of Beige-Like Adipocytes in 3T3-L1 Cells

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2014
There are two types of brown adipocytes: classical brown adipocytes that form the brown fat depots and beige adipocytes that emerge in the white fat depots. Beige adipocytes have a low level of uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp1) expression in the basal state, but Ucp1 expression is increased in response to β adrenergic receptor activation.

Biology of Beige Adipocyte and Possible Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2016
All mammals own two main forms of fat. The classical white adipose tissue builds up energy in the form of triglycerides and is useful for preventing fatigue during periods of low caloric intake and the brown adipose tissue instead of inducing fat ...

Isoliquiritigenin Enhances the Beige Adipocyte Potential of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells by JNK Inhibition

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs) can be isolated from fat tissue and have attracted interest for their potential therapeutic applications in metabolic disease.

Thyroid Hormone Receptor β1 and PGC1α Coordinately Regulate OPA1/MFN2‐Mediated Mitochondrial Fusion and UCP1‐Mediated Lipid Browning in ccRCC

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 5, 27 January 2026.
Thyroid hormone receptor β1 (TRβ) downregulation correlates with poor prognosis in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Restoration of TRβ and the peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor gamma coactivator 1‐alpha suppresses tumor progression in ccRCC through Uncoupling protein 1 mediated tumor cell “slimming” and optic atrophy 1/mitofusin 2 ...

Brown and Beige Fat: Therapeutic Potential in Obesity

open access: yesIndonesian Biomedical Journal, 2014
BACKGROUND: The epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes presents a serious challenge to scientific and biomedical communities worldwide. There has been an upsurge of interest in the adipocyte coincident with the onset of the obesity epidemic and the ...

Single‐Nuclei Resolution of Intermuscular Adipose Tissue Indicates an Inflammation‐Associated Cellular Profile in Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis: Findings From the SOMMA KOA Ancillary Study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
Interrogation of the cellular and transcriptional profile of IMAT in individuals with KOA reveals a pro‐inflammatory phenotype. ABSTRACT Individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) have skeletal muscle changes around the knee joint including reduced quadricep muscle mass and increased intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT).

Epigenetic regulation of beige adipocyte fate by histone methylation

open access: yesEndocrine Journal, 2019
Adipose tissue harbors plasticity to adapt to environmental thermal changes. While brown adipocyte is a thermogenic cell which produces heat acutely in response to cold stimuli, beige (or brite) adipocyte is an inducible form of thermogenic adipocytes which emerges in the white adipose depots in response to chronic cold exposure.

Mitochondrial fission is associated with UCP1 activity in human brite/beige adipocytes

open access: yesMolecular Metabolism, 2018
Objective: Thermogenic adipocytes (i.e. brown or brite/beige adipocytes) are able to burn large amounts of lipids and carbohydrates as a result of highly active mitochondria and enhanced uncoupled respiration, due to UCP1 activity.
