Development of NASH in Obese Mice is Confounded by Adipose Tissue Increase in Inflammatory NOV and Oxidative Stress [PDF]
Aim. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the consequence of insulin resistance, fatty acid accumulation, oxidative stress, and lipotoxicity. We hypothesize that an increase in the inflammatory adipokine NOV decreases antioxidant Heme Oxygenase 1 (HO- 1)

ASD, a natural plant product screened from small molecule compound library, is an antiobesity agent in mice. ASD promotes BAT thermogenesis to inhibit body weight gain. USP4 was identified and validated as a direct molecular target of ASD. ASD‐induced thermogenesis is modulated by a USP4–PPARγ–UCP1 axis.

Adipose mTORC1 Suppresses Prostaglandin Signaling and Beige Adipogenesis via the CRTC2-COX-2 Pathway
Summary: Beige adipocytes are present in white adipose tissue (WAT) and have thermogenic capacity to orchestrate substantial energy metabolism and counteract obesity.

Brown and beige adipocytes are specialized to dissipate energy as heat. Sgk2, encoding a serine/threonine kinase, has been identified as a brown and beige adipocyte-specific gene in rodents and humans; however, its function in brown/beige adipocytes ...

BCAA catabolism in brown fat controls energy homeostasis through SLC25A44. [PDF]
Branched-chain amino acid (BCAA; valine, leucine and isoleucine) supplementation is often beneficial to energy expenditure; however, increased circulating levels of BCAA are linked to obesity and diabetes.

Primary preadipocytes from inguinal white or interscapular brown fat were treated with paracrine fibroblast growth factors (FGF) 2, 4, 8, or 9. Treatment induced acute Ucp1 expression in preadipocytes, independent of other browning markers. Upon subsequent differentiation, Ucp1 and browning markers were expressed at levels comparable to untreated cells.

Background Emerging evidence supports the pivotal roles of adipocytes in breast cancer progression. Tumour induced beige/brown adipose tissue differentiation contributes to the hypermetabolic state of the breast cancer.

Lysyl oxidase inhibition enhances browning of white adipose tissue and adaptive thermogenesis
Accumulating evidence from both animal and human studies suggests that activation of beige fat increases cellular energy expenditure, ultimately reducing adiposity.

Coordinate Functional Regulation between Microsomal Prostaglandin E Synthase-1 (mPGES-1) and Peroxisome Proliferator-activated Receptor y (PPARy) in the Conversion of White-to-brown Adipocytes [PDF]
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is a ligand-activated nuclear receptor and a master regulator of adipogenesis. Microsomal prostaglandin E (PGE) synthase-1 (mPGES-1) is an inducible enzyme that couples with cyclooxygenase-2 for the ...

Caloric restriction that extends lifespan induces the expression of PGC‐1α and MIPEP in white adipose tissue. In this study, co‐overexpression of Pgc‐1α and Mipep upregulated the gene expression of PHOSPHO1. These findings provide new insights into mitochondria‐related mechanisms underlying the effects of caloric restriction in adipocytes.
